Will Jets Identify the Progenitors of Type Ia Supernovae? [PDF]

open access: yes, 2002
We use the fact that a Type Ia supernova has been serendipitously discovered near the jet of the active galaxy 3C 78 to examine the question of whether jets can enhance accretion onto white dwarfs. One interesting outcome of such a jet-induced accretion process is an enhanced rate of novae in the vicinity of jets.

The Eddy Flux Transport of the Magnetohydrodynamic Quasi‐Geostrophic Disturbances

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, Volume 52, Issue 7, 16 April 2025.
Abstract The classic Eliassen‐Palm (E‐P) flux in the geophysical fluid dynamics is a vector to qualify the eddy momentum and heat flux transport by Rossby waves in the latitude‐height plane. In this investigation, we derive two magnetic E‐P fluxes to quantify the eddy energy transport by magnetic Rossby waves by using magnetohydrodynamic quasi ...

Evidence for Helical Magnetic Fields Associated with AGN Jets and the Action of a Cosmic Battery

open access: yesGalaxies, 2018
Theoretical models for the electromagnetic launching of astrophysical jets have long indicated that this process should generate helical magnetic fields, which should then propagate outward with the jet plasma.

Laboratory Experiments, Numerical Simulations, and Astronomical Observations of Deflected Supersonic Jets: Application to HH 110

open access: yes, 2009
Collimated supersonic flows in laboratory experiments behave in a similar manner to astrophysical jets provided that radiation, viscosity, and thermal conductivity are unimportant in the laboratory jets, and that the experimental and astrophysical jets ...

Numerical Study of Radiative and Dissipative MHD Casson Nanofluid Over a Cone With High‐Order Chemical Reaction

open access: yesEngineering Reports, Volume 7, Issue 4, April 2025.
This study investigated the dissipative effects on time‐dependent Casson nanofluid motion over a cone, considering variable heat source/absorption and higher‐order reacting species. Water ethylene glycol was employed as the Casson base fluid. The proposed model has broad applicability across various scientific, engineering, and technological domains ...

Thermal balance of the jet in the microquasar SS433 [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Thermal balance of the jet in the source SS433 is considered with account of radiative and adiabatic cooling, and different heating mechanisms. We consider jet heating by the inverse Compton effect of coronal hard X-ray quanta on jet electrons, the influence of shock wave propagation along the jet, and jet kinetic energy transformation into heat via ...

The Spectrum of Electromagnetic Jets from Kerr Black Holes and Naked Singularities in the Teukolsky Perturbation Theory

open access: yes, 2011
We give a new theoretical basis for examination of the presence of the Kerr black hole (KBH) or the Kerr naked singularity (KNS) in the central engine of different astrophysical objects around which astrophysical jets are typically formed: X-ray binary ...

Radiative Processes In Extragalactic Large-Scale Jets [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
About one thousand extragalactic large-scale jets are known, and a few tens of them are confirmed sources of infrared, optical, or X-ray photons. Multiwavelength emission comming directly from these outflows is always non-thermal in origin.

Analysis of CME Interactions in Solar Corona Combining Coronagraphic Observations with Wide-field Imagers from Solar Orbiter and Parker Solar Probe

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
Accurately determining the trajectory of coronal mass ejections (CMEs) is vital for space weather forecasting and assessing their potential impact on Earth. CMEs often deviate from a radial path, due to local pressure gradients or interactions with other

Study of High Energy Emission from Relativistic Jets with VERITAS

open access: yesEPJ Web of Conferences, 2013
VERITAS is an imaging atmospheric Cherenkov telescope array carrying out observations of the gamma-ray sky at energies above 100 GeV. Located in southern Arizona, VERITAS consists of an array of four telescopes, and carries out a comprehensive observing ...
