Astrophysical water masers: Line profiles analysis [PDF]

open access: yesAstronomy & Astrophysics, 2005
The changes in the spectral line profile of the 22GHz H2O maser are calculated as a function of emerging maser flux. We address not only the narrowing and re-broadening of the maser lines, but also the deviations of Gaussian symmetry as a result of the various hyperfine components of the 22 GHz maser line.

Interacting masers and the extreme brightness of astrophysical water masers

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal, 1989
Extreme surface brightnesses have long been reported for water masers which are well beyond what is found in self-consistent, theoretical investigations of these masers. The transport of maser radiation is calculated when two masers, having the properties inferred for the numerous weaker masers and separated by distances characteristic of the molecular

Saturation and beaming in astrophysical masers. III - Asymmetrically pumped masers

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal, 1986
There is reason to believe that the physical conditions in many astrophysical masers are far from homogeneous. In particular, if the maser pump involves the absorption of infrared photons, the pump rate may vary rapidly (perhaps exponentially) across the cloud.

Spectral line profiles and luminosities of astrophysical water masers

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal, 1991
The spectral line narrowing and rebroadening that occurs for astrophysical masers as a function of the emergent radiative flux is calculated for the prominent, 22 GHz masing transition of water. The increased line breadths due to hyperfine structure lead to reliable, essentially model-independent upper limits to the emergent flux that tend to be lower ...

Spectra of circularly polarized radiation from astrophysical OH masers

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal, 1990
A striking feature of astrophysical masers is the tendency for either one or the other of the circular polarizations to dominate in the radiation from the strong, widely observed masing transitions of OH at 18 cm. Spectral line profiles are calculated for polarized maser radiation due to the combined effects of a velocity gradient and, as is indicated ...

Broadband VLA Spectral-line Survey of a Sample of Ionized Jet Candidates

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal Supplement Series, 2023
The study of the interaction between ionized jets, molecular outflows, and their environments is critical to understanding high-mass star formation, especially because jets and outflows are thought to be key in the transfer of angular momentum outward ...

Amplification of OAM radiation by astrophysical masers [PDF]

open access: yesMonthly Notices of the Royal Astronomical Society, 2014
We extend the theory of astrophysical maser propagation through a medium with a Zeeman-split molecular response to the case of a non-uniform magnetic field, and allow a component of the electric field of the radiation in the direction of propagation: a characteristic of radiation with orbital angular momentum.

The Australia Telescope campaign to study southern class I methanol masers [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
The Australia Telescope Compact Array (ATCA) and the Mopra facility have been used to search for new southern class I methanol masers at 9.9, 25 (J=5) and 104 GHz, which are thought to trace more energetic conditions in the interface regions of molecular
