Immune system modulation & virus transmission during parasitism identified by multi-species transcriptomics of a declining insect biocontrol system

open access: yesBMC Genomics
Background The Argentine stem weevil (ASW, Listronotus bonariensis) is a significant pasture pest in Aotearoa New Zealand, primarily controlled by the parasitoid biocontrol agent Microctonus hyperodae.

Utilization direction of industrial raw products built-up in power station ash dumps

open access: yesMATEC Web of Conferences, 2017
Nowadays hundreds million tons of ash and slag waste (ASW) is produced in Russia yearly. Large territories are needed in order to store such a big waste volume. Besides, it is necessary to conduct special engineering and ecological work at the design and

Extent and mechanism of sealing in transected giant axons of squid and earthworms [PDF]

open access: yes, 1994
Transected axons are often assumed to seal at their cut ends by the formation of continuous membrane barriers that allow for the restoration of function in the axonal stumps.

Techno‐economic analysis for hydroxy acids production from waste cellulose via alkaline digestion

open access: yesJournal of Chemical Technology &Biotechnology, EarlyView.
Abstract BACKGROUND Alkaline digestion offers a promising route for converting low‐grade cellulosic wastes into valuable hydroxy carboxylic acids (HAs). However, the feasibility of producing HAs at process scale, particularly the influence of reactor design on product yields, energy demand, and production costs, remains less explored.

Leader Succession and Strategic Change: The Role of Leader's Subgroups Size

open access: yesStrategic Change, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Research suggests that new CEO successors drive strategic change through the subgroup of their immediate collaborators. However, it remains unclear how this subgroup is configured. In this research, we address this limitation by introducing a new concept of “CEO's subgroup size” (the number of TMT members in the CEO's subgroup).

Tribological Properties of Aluminium Matrix Syntactic Foams Manufactured with Aluminium Smelter Waste

open access: yesApplied Sciences
Aluminium smelter waste (ASW) is a big contributor to landfills, and its recycling has been of great interest. This study investigates the tribological properties of aluminium matrix syntactic foams manufactured using an Al 6082 alloy and ASW.

Environmental Risk Assessment and Anti‐Corrosion Efficacy of Safe‐by‐Design Nitrite‐Based Nanomaterials for Maritime Applications

open access: yesNano Select, EarlyView.
The environmental behavior and impact of anti‐corrosion nanoadditives, ZnAl‐NO2 and MgAl‐NO2 layered double hydroxides (LDH), are assessed under marine conditions. These nanomaterials show instability in water but exhibit no or low toxicity to most tested marine species.

Study on the biodegradation of crude oil by free and immobilized bacterial consortium in marine environment. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2017
Five strains of bacteria, namely, Exiguobacterium sp. ASW-1, Pseudomonas aeruginosa strain ASW-2, Alcaligenes sp. ASW-3, Alcaligenes sp. ASS-1, and Bacillus sp. ASS-2, were isolated from the Zhejiang coast in China.

Water Co‐Adsorption in Ultrathin Films of Ionic Liquids on Pt(111)

open access: yesChemistryOpen, EarlyView.
At 100 K, IL adsorption on D2O precovered Pt(111) partially displaces interfacial water resulting in a water‐IL co‐adsorbed layer. Upon heating to 130 K, IL ions migrate to the metal interface, thereby destabilizing adsorbed water as shown by the ≈10 K reduction in its desorption temperature.

Real-Time Stripe Width Computation Using Back Propagation Neural Network for Adaptive Control of Line Structured Light Sensors

open access: yesSensors, 2020
A line structured light sensor (LSLS) is generally constituted of a laser line projector and a camera. With the advantages of simple construction, non-contact, and high measuring speed, it is of great perspective in 3D measurement. For traditional LSLSs,
