Asymmetric drag in oscillatory motion: Ratchet effect without an asymmetric potential

open access: yesPhysical Review E, 2013
Asymmetry of magnetic objects in a fluid under an oscillating magnetic field leads to a wealth of nonequilibrium dynamics phenomena including a novel ratchet effect without an asymmetric substrate. These nonlinear dynamics are explained in the framework of the Stokes' model by a drag coefficient, which depends on the direction of motion.

Investigating Macro Drivers of the Total Stock Market Index with a Non-linear Approach in the Form of a Threshold Regression Model [PDF]

open access: yesراهبرد مدیریت مالی
The total index of the Tehran Stock Exchange has accepted different and asymmetric effects from a driving factor in different periods, therefore, the study of factors affecting the total index of the Tehran Stock Exchange with a linear approach will not ...

Spin-Polarized Electron Transport through Nanometer-Scale Al Grains

open access: yes, 2005
We investigate spin-polarized electron tunnelling through ensembles of nanometer scale Al grains embedded between two Co-reservoirs at 4.2K, and observe tunnelling-magnetoresistance (TMR) and effects from spin-precession in the perpendicular applied ...

Revealing the structure of land plant photosystem II: the journey from negative‐stain EM to cryo‐EM

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Advances in cryo‐EM have revealed the detailed structure of Photosystem II, a key protein complex driving photosynthesis. This review traces the journey from early low‐resolution images to high‐resolution models, highlighting how these discoveries deepen our understanding of light harvesting and energy conversion in plants.

THE ASYMMETRIC EFFECTS OF INVESTOR SENTIMENT [PDF]

open access: yesMacroeconomic Dynamics, 2015
We use the returns on lottery-like stocks and a dynamic factor model to construct a novel index of investor sentiment. This new measure is highly correlated with other behavioral indicators, but more closely tracks speculative episodes. Our main new finding is that the effects of sentiment are asymmetric: During peak-to-trough periods of investor ...

Ram-Ppressure Effects on Dense Molecular Arms in the Central Regions of Spiral Galaxies by Intracluster Medium [PDF]

open access: yes, 2002
We investigated ram-pressure effects by an intracluster wind on an inner disk of spiral galaxies by a hydrodynamical simulation. Even if the wind is mild and not strong enough to strip the gas disk, the ram pressure disturbs orbits of the inter-arm gas ...

Spatiotemporal and quantitative analyses of phosphoinositides – fluorescent probe—and mass spectrometry‐based approaches

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Fluorescent probes allow dynamic visualization of phosphoinositides in living cells (left), whereas mass spectrometry provides high‐sensitivity, isomer‐resolved quantitation (right). Their synergistic use captures complementary aspects of lipid signaling. This review illustrates how these approaches reveal the spatiotemporal regulation and quantitative

Asymmetric Effects of Oil Price Shocks on Stock Markets: A NARDL Analysis for Türkiye and Kazakhstan

open access: yesEconomies
This study examines the asymmetric responses of stock market indices in Türkiye and Kazakhstan to oil price shocks during the 2010–2025 period. Using the Nonlinear Autoregressive Distributed Lag (NARDL) model, the study decomposes the nonlinear effects ...

The newfound relationship between extrachromosomal DNAs and excised signal circles

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Extrachromosomal DNAs (ecDNAs) contribute to the progression of many human cancers. In addition, circular DNA by‐products of V(D)J recombination, excised signal circles (ESCs), have roles in cancer progression but have largely been overlooked. In this Review, we explore the roles of ecDNAs and ESCs in cancer development, and highlight why these ...
