Dual-toroidal dipole excitation on permittivity-asymmetric dielectric metasurfaces
Optics Letters, 2020Magnetic and electric toroidal dipoles possess interesting properties differing from traditional electric and magnetic dipoles. In order to generate both the magnetic and electric toroidal dipoles simultaneously in one single structure, a permittivity-asymmetric dielectric metasurface is proposed, which is composed of clusters of four high-index ...

Nonlinear Asymmetric Excitation of Edge Waves
IMA Journal of Applied Mathematics, 1991The resonant excitation of two weakly nonlinear oppositely travelling edge waves on a gently sloping beach by a perfectly reflected obliquely incident gravity wave is calculated. The four first-order nonlinear differential equations that govern the slowly varying amplitudes and phases of the edge waves are associated with a Hamiltonian supplemented by ...

Coherent excitation by asymmetric pulses
Journal of Physics B: Atomic, Molecular and Optical Physics, 1995It is shown that any pulse with a time-asymmetric envelope and a constant non-zero detuning excites a two-level quantum system with a probability of nearly one-half provided the pulse is very asymmetric, adiabatic in the slowly rising part of its envelope, sudden in the steep part and the peak Rabi frequency is much greater than the detuning.

An exciting tool for asymmetric synthesis
Nature, 2018A catalytic process driven by visible light converts a mixture of mirror-image isomers of compounds called allenes to a single mirror-image isomer — opening up avenues of research for synthetic chemistry. A light-activated process for deracemization.

Dipole excitations of neutron-proton asymmetric nuclei
Nuclear Physics A, 2004Dipole excitations of unstable short-lived nuclei has been investigated experimentally by utilizing the electromagnetic-excitation process with high-energy secondary beams. From an exclusive measurement of the neutron-decay channels, differential cross sections with respect to excitation energy, which are directly related to the photo-absorption cross ...

Asymmetric corticomotor excitability correlations in early Parkinson's disease
Movement Disorders, 2007AbstractWe studied corticomotor excitability (CE) between the more and less affected sides in early Parkinson's disease (PD) patients using transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS). Sixteen‐PD patients within the first 3 years of diagnosis were studied with single‐pulse TMS over each motor cortex with intensities from 40% to 100% stimulator output ...
