The Exponentiated Power Alpha Index Generalized Family of Distributions: Properties and Applications
The study of hydrological characteristics has a vital role in designing, planning, and managing water resources. The selection of appropriate probability distributions and methods of estimations are basic elements in hydrology analyses.

Asymptotic analysis of Bragg fibers [PDF]
Using an asymptotic analysis, we obtain an eigenvalue equation for the general mode dispersion in Bragg fibers. The asymptotic analysis is applied to calculate the dispersion relation and the field distribution of TE modes in a Bragg fiber.

Meanders: exact asymptotics [PDF]
We conjecture that meanders are governed by the gravitational version of a c=-4 two-dimensional conformal field theory, allowing for exact predictions for the meander configuration exponent =\sqrt{29}(\sqrt{29}+\sqrt{5})/12, and the semi-meander exponent {\bar }=1+\sqrt{11}(\sqrt{29}+\sqrt{5})/24.

Asymptotic symmetries on Killing horizons [PDF]
We investigate asymptotic symmetries regularly defined on spherically symmetric Killing horizons in the Einstein theory with or without the cosmological constant.

Asymptotics for penalized additive B-spline regression [PDF]
This paper is concerned with asymptotic theory for penalized spline estimator in bivariate additive model. The focus of this paper is put upon the penalized spline estimator obtained by the backfitting algorithm.

Uniform Asymptotic Methods for Integrals [PDF]
We give an overview of basic methods that can be used for obtaining asymptotic expansions of integrals: Watson's lemma, Laplace's method, the saddle point method, and the method of stationary phase.

Effect of damage accumulation on the asymptotic behavior of stresses ahead the crack tip
The subject of this study is the analysis of mechanical fields associated with a crack tip under creep conditions, taking into account the phenomenon of damage accumulation.

Using a set of evolution equations [J.G. Amar {\it et al}, Phys. Rev. Lett. {\bf 86}, 3092 (2001)] for the average gap-size between islands, we calculate analytically the asymptotic scaled capture-number distribution (CND) for one-dimensional ...

Discrete asymptotic nets and W-congruences in Plucker line geometry
The asymptotic lattices and their transformations are studied within the line geometry approach. It is shown that the discrete asymptotic nets are represented by isotropic congruences in the Plucker quadric.

Basic asymptotic estimates for powers of Wallis’ ratios
For any $a\in\R$, for every $n\in\N$, and for $n$-th Wallis' ratio $w_n:=\prod_{k=1}^n\frac{2k-1}{2k}$, the relative error $r_{\,\!_0}(a,n):=\big(v_{\,\!_0}(a,n)-w_n^a\big)/w_n^a$ of the approximation $w_n^a\approx v_{\,\!_0}(a,n):=(\pi n)^{-a/2} $ is ...
