Asymptotic Analysis of an Elastic Layer under Light Fluid Loading

open access: yesMathematics
Asymptotic analysis for an elastic layer under light fluid loading was developed. The ratio of fluid and solid densities was chosen as the main small parameter determining a novel scaling.

A Moment Approach for a Conditional Central Limit Theorem of Infinite-Server Queue: A Case of M/MX/ Queue

open access: yesMathematics, 2023
Several studies have been conducted on scaling limits for Markov-modulated infinite-server queues. To the best of our knowledge, most of these studies adopt an approach to prove the convergence of the moment-generating function (or characteristic ...

A Workflow to Accelerate Microstructure‐Sensitive Fatigue Life Predictions

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study introduces a workflow to accelerate predictions of microstructure‐sensitive fatigue life. Results from frameworks with varying levels of simplification are benchmarked against published reference results. The analysis reveals a trade‐off between accuracy and model complexity, offering researchers a practical guide for selecting the optimal ...

Statistical Analysis of Multi-Relational Network Recovery

open access: yesFrontiers in Applied Mathematics and Statistics, 2020
In this paper, we develop asymptotic theories for a class of latent variable models for large-scale multi-relational networks. In particular, we establish consistency results and asymptotic error bounds for the (penalized) maximum likelihood estimators ...

Karl Popper and the Mechanisms of Hydrogen Embrittlement

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Representation of the beginning of loss of ductility rather than embrittlement. Small concentrations of hydrogen in a diffusible form within iron are well‐established to harm the mechanical integrity of steels. There are theories that attempt to explain the pernicious role of hydrogen.

Global stability with selection in integro-differential Lotka-Volterra systems modelling trait-structured populations

open access: yesJournal of Biological Dynamics, 2018
We analyse the asymptotic behaviour of integro-differential equations modelling N populations in interaction, all structured by different traits.

Asymptotic analysis of Bragg fibers [PDF]

open access: yesOptics Letters, 2000
Using an asymptotic analysis, we obtain an eigenvalue equation for the general mode dispersion in Bragg fibers. The asymptotic analysis is applied to calculate the dispersion relation and the field distribution of TE modes in a Bragg fiber. We compare the asymptotic results with exact solutions and find excellent agreement between them. This asymptotic

Molecular Dynamics Studies of Shape Memory Polymers: From Bead–Spring Models to Atomistic Simulations

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Coarse‐grained (left) and atomistic (right) models of the shape memory polymer ESTANE ETE 75DT3 are shown schematically. The two representations bridge molecular detail and mesoscopic description. Both models capture shape memory behavior, linking segmental mobility and conformational relaxation of anisotropic chains to macroscopic recovery, and ...

Fine bounds for best constants of fractional subcritical Sobolev embeddings and applications to nonlocal PDEs

open access: yesAdvances in Nonlinear Analysis, 2023
We establish fine bounds for best constants of the fractional subcritical Sobolev embeddings W0s,p(Ω)↪Lq(Ω),{W}_{0}^{s,p}(\Omega )\hspace{0.33em}\hookrightarrow \hspace{0.33em}{L}^{q}(\Omega ), where N≥1N\ge 1 ...
