Stability of slowly diverging flows in shallow water

open access: yesMathematical Modelling and Analysis, 2007
Methods of weakly nonlinear theory are used in the present paper in order to study the development of instability in shallow water for the case where the flow is assumed to be slightly non‐parallel.

A Faster and More Accurate Algorithm for Calculating Population Genetics Statistics Requiring Sums of Stirling Numbers of the First Kind

open access: yesG3: Genes, Genomes, Genetics, 2020
Ewen’s sampling formula is a foundational theoretical result that connects probability and number theory with molecular genetics and molecular evolution; it was the analytical result required for testing the neutral theory of evolution, and has since ...

Introduction to the parallelization of algorithms and programs [PDF]

open access: yesКомпьютерные исследования и моделирование, 2010
Difference of software development for parallel computing technology from sequential programming is dicussed. Arguements for introduction of new phases into technology of software engineering are given.

Localized Temperature Monitoring in Mouse Brain during Light Delivery via a Non‐Planar Tapered Fiber‐Integrated µRTD Sensor

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
We report a multifunctional tapered optical fiber integrating a conformal micro‐resistance temperature detector (µRTD) for local, real‐time thermometry during optical stimulation. The platform combines light‐delivery and temperature sensing within a minimally invasive footprint, enabling detection of sub‐degree cortical heating under representative ...

A Problem of Free Vibrations Medium-Filled Cylindrical Shells Reinforced by a Cross System of Ribs and Loaded with Axial Contracting Forces

open access: yesМеханика машин, механизмов и материалов, 2009
The given paper is devoted to the investigation of vibrations of medium-filled cylindrical shells reinforced by a cross system of ribs and loaded with axial contracting forces.

A third order correction to the Helmholtz equation

open access: yesMathematical Modelling and Analysis, 2005
In this work we derive a third order correction to the classical Helmholtz equation. Starting from non‐linear Euler equations and using asymptotical analysis we get a decoupled system of linear, Helmholtz type equations, which are written in terms of the

Coupled and scalar asymptotic models for internal waves over variable topography

open access: yes, 2018
The Green–Naghdi type model in the Camassa–Holm regime derived in [Comm. Pure Appl. Anal. 14(6) (2015) 2203–2230], describe the propagation of medium amplitude internal waves over medium amplitude topography variations. It is fully justified in the sense

Asymptotic analysis of Bragg fibers [PDF]

open access: yesOptics Letters, 2000
Using an asymptotic analysis, we obtain an eigenvalue equation for the general mode dispersion in Bragg fibers. The asymptotic analysis is applied to calculate the dispersion relation and the field distribution of TE modes in a Bragg fiber. We compare the asymptotic results with exact solutions and find excellent agreement between them. This asymptotic

Assembling a True “Olympic Gel” From over 16 000 Combinatorial DNA Rings

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Olympic gels are an elusive class of soft matter, consisting of molecular networks held together purely by mechanically interlocked rings. Their topological structure promises unique properties and functions, but their synthesis has proven notoriously difficult.

Riesz basis and exponential stability for Euler-bernoulli beams with variable coefficients and indefinite damping under a force control in position and velocity

open access: yesElectronic Journal of Differential Equations, 2015
This article concerns the Riesz basis property and the stability of a damped Euler-Bernoulli beam with nonuniform thickness or density, that is clamped at one end and is free at the other.
