Geographical variation of cshromosomal numberin Alouatta fusca damitans (Primates, Atelidae) [PDF]

open access: goldCaryologia, 2000
Abstract A variation in the karyotype of Alouatta fusca clamitam from different geographical ranges is presented. Blood samples of six captive specimens from different States of Brazil were analyzed. Distinct diploid numbers were found: 2n=52, 2n=45 and 46. The odd number was due to Y-autosome translocation.

Ecomorphological determinations in the absence of living analogs:The predatory behavior of the marsupial lion (Thylacoleo carnifex) as revealed by elbow joint morphology [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Thylacoleo carnifex, or the “pouched lion” (Mammalia: Marsupialia: Diprotodontia: Thylacoleonidae), was a carnivorous marsupial that inhabited Australia during the Pleistocene.

Genetic viability and habitat suitability of the critically endangered southern muriqui (Brachyteles arachnoides) in the Atlantic Forest's fragmented landscapes under land use and climate change scenarios

open access: yesClimate Change Ecology, 2023
The joint effects of climate change and landscape fragmentation to the genetic viability of isolated populations has barely been addressed for the Atlantic Forest fauna.

Polymorphism of visual pigment genes in the muriqui (Primates, Atelidae) [PDF]

open access: yesMolecular Ecology, 2005
AbstractColour vision varies within the family Atelidae (Primates, Platyrrhini), which consists of four genera with the following cladistic relationship: {Alouatta[Ateles(LagothrixandBrachyteles)]}. Spider monkeys (Ateles) and woolly monkeys (Lagothrix) are characteristic of platyrrhine monkeys in possessing a colour vision polymorphism.

Photopigments and colour vision in New World monkeys from the family Atelidae [PDF]

open access: yesProceedings of the Royal Society of London. Series B: Biological Sciences, 2001
Most New World monkeys have an X-chromosome opsin gene polymorphism that produces a variety of different colour vision phenotypes. Howler monkeys (Alouatta), one of the four genera in the family Atelidae lack this polymorphism. Instead, they have acquired uniform trichromatic colour vision similar to that of Old World monkeys, apes and people through ...

Divergence Times and the Evolutionary Radiation of New World Monkeys (Platyrrhini, Primates): An Analysis of Fossil and Molecular Data [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
The estimation of phylogenetic relationships and divergence times among a group of organisms is a fundamental first step toward understanding its biological diversification.

Incisor cross-sectional area at the cementoenamel junction correlates with an increased reliance on frugivory in anthropoid primates. [PDF]

open access: yesAnat Rec (Hoboken)
Abstract Diet is one of a limited set of key ecological parameters defining primate species. A detailed understanding of dental functional correlates with primate diet is a key component for accurate dietary inference in fossil primates. Although considerable effort has been devoted to understanding post‐canine dental function, incisor function remains

Chromosome Evolution in New World Monkeys (Platyrrhini) [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
During the last decades, New World monkey (NWM, Platyrrhini, Anthropoideae) comparative cytogenetics has shed light on many fundamental aspects of genome organisation and evolution in this fascinating, but also highly endangered group of neotropical ...

Phylogenetic inferences of Atelinae (Platyrrhini) based on multi-directional chromosome painting in Brachyteles arachnoides, Ateles paniscus paniscus and Ateles b. marginatus [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
We performed multi-directional chromosome painting in a comparative cytogenetic study of the three Atelinae species Brachyteles arachnoides, Ateles paniscus paniscus and Ateles belzebuth marginatus, in order to reconstruct phylogenetic relationships ...
