Atherinidae Atherina boyeri Risso, 1810 —Big-scale sand smelt The species is easily confused with A. presbyter. The sample ZMH 13570 (4 specimens, Funchal, Madeira, d'Abreu Nunes, 4 June 1930), originally identified as A. boyeri, was re-identified by us as A. presbyter. The presence of A. boyeri at Madeira appears very doubtful.
