Biogeography of the genus Craterocephalus (Teleostei: Atherinidae) in Australia
Molecular Phylogenetics and Evolution, 2010The genus Craterocephalus is one of the 11 genera within the family Atherinidae. It is the only genus in the family that has undergone an extensive radiation within freshwater habitats. Five species groups are represented within the genus, with 18 species found in Australia, six in New Guinea and one in East Timor.

Mississippi Silversides, Menidia audens (Atherinidae), Established in California
Transactions of the American Fisheries Society, 1970Abstract Menidia audens were introduced into Upper and Lower Blue Lakes, and in Clear Lake, Lake County, during the fall of 1967, as a result of previous study indicating a high potential for this species as a biological control agent for aquatic midges, and as a forage species for game fishes.

All-Female Fish: A Cryptic Species of Menidia (Atherinidae)
Science, 1981Electrophoretic evidence revealed the common occurrence of an all-female species of Menidia (Pisces: Atherinidae) at two localities separated by 280 kilometers on the Gulf Coast of Texas. This finding adds significantly to the known taxonomic spectrum of unisexuality in fishes and demonstrates that unisexuality may ...

Taxonomic review of the genus Hypoatherina Schultz 1948 (Atheriniformes: Atherinidae)
Ichthyological Research, 2014The marine atherinid fishes of the genus Hypoatherina Schultz 1948 (Atherinidae: Atherinomorinae) were redefined from both morphological and molecular analyses, and eight of the ten included species were redescribed. In the molecular phylogeny, four regions of mitochondrial DNA were analyzed. The results of both trees of maximum likelihood and Bayesian

Reproduction in Odontesthes bonariensis (Atherinidae: Pisces) from north-western Argentina
Journal of Applied Ichthyology, 2002The spawning biology of silver fish, Odontesthes bonariensis (Cuvier and Valenciennes 1835), from north-western Argentina was studied from monthly captures between November 1997 and March 1999. The spawning period and lengths thereof were analysed using gonadosomatic index (GSI) curves and monthly percentage distributions of maturation stages. A single

Rediscovery of Labidesthes sicculus (Atherinidae) in Lake Texoma (Oklahoma-Texas)
The Southwestern Naturalist, 2002species of falcons taking swifts in flight. Arnold (1942) observed a pair of large falcons thought to be peregrines (Falco peregrinus) working together to capture a white-throated swift. One falcon chased the swift, while the other dove on it from above and made the capture.

Genetic study of atherinidae fishes of Mangueira Lagoon (RS-Brazil)
Comparative Biochemistry and Physiology Part B: Comparative Biochemistry, 1989Abstract 1. 1. Four morphotypes of silversides (Atherinidae) of Mangueira Lagoon (RS-Brazil) could be identified as Odonthestes bonariensis, Odonthestes humensis and Yaci retropinis . In O. bonariensis the occurrence of two morphotypes, one “little” and the other “normal” in size, was observed. All these morphotypes were examined by isozymes
