Overlooked Bird Extinctions in Semideciduous Atlantic Forests
ABSTRACTThe semideciduous forest is a prominent yet highly degraded phytophysiognomy within the Atlantic Forest. Historically, bird species inhabiting these forests occurred throughout central and western São Paulo state, south‐eastern Brazil, until the mid‐20th century.

Military lands provide an opportunity to recover red wolves
Red wolf (Canis rufus) recovery remains challenging, with only one population persisting and no reintroductions since 1998. Despite extensive, biodiverse properties in the Southeast with conservation mandates, military lands have been overlooked. In our paper, we evaluate them as a potential path forward for red wolf reintroduction sites.

Precision Restoration to Minimize Soil Loss in a Watershed in the Atlantic Forest Domain
ABSTRACT The Turvo River Watershed, located in the Zona da Mata region of Minas Gerais and part of the Doce River Basin, faces serious problems of erosion and soil degradation, which compromise and reduce the quality of local water resources. Given this scenario, it is essential to implement environmental recovery strategies that prioritize the ...

Effect of slope on the forest structure of the Atlantic Forest domain in southern Brazil
Abstract The mosaic landscape composition of forest fragments located on high slopes, shallow soils hinder ecological interactions and the survival of plant species. This study aimed to show, in an environment with these characteristics, the effect of the environmental gradient relating the soil, slope, and vegetation of a fragment of the Montane ...

ABSTRACT Uncertainties about the applicability of δ13C and δ15N as tracers of sediment sources in tropical river basins highlight the need for more in‐depth investigations of these isotopes. This study therefore assessed the effectiveness of δ13C and δ15N signatures in discriminating sediment sources in an agricultural catchment in Northeast Brazil ...

ABSTRACT This study presents an innovative assessment model for analyzing the evolution of degraded soils subjected to different reclamation strategies. The proposal combines statistical and artificial intelligence tools to jointly integrate multiple physical and chemical soil properties, allowing for a more synthetic view of the processes.
