Explainable few-shot learning workflow for detecting invasive and exotic tree species [PDF]
Deep Learning methods are notorious for relying on extensive labeled datasets to train and assess their performance. This can cause difficulties in practical situations where models should be trained for new applications for which very little data is available. While few-shot learning algorithms can address the first problem, they still lack sufficient

Coherent changes of the circulation in the deep North Atlantic from moored transport arrays [PDF]
In situ boundary arrays have been installed in the North Atlantic to measure the large-scale ocean circulation. Here, we use measurements at the western edge of the North Atlantic at $16^\circ$N and $26^\circ$N to investigate low-frequency variations in deep densities and their associated influence on ocean transports.

Late Pleistocene–Holocene environmental fluctuations of southern Chihuahua Desert, Mexico
ABSTRACT Paleoenvironmental reconstructions from the Mexican Chihuahua Desert based on biological proxies are scarce, creating a gap in our understanding of the ecological responses to climate change in this water‐scarce region. Here, we present a paleoenvironmental reconstruction based on geochemical data and biological proxies such as ostracods and ...

ABSTRACT Northwest Europe experienced high‐amplitude climate change at the onset and end of the Younger Dryas (YD; ca 12 800–11 600 cal a BP), a crucial period to develop our understanding of natural climate dynamics. European palaeoclimatological records generally suggest a bipartite structure of the YD, potentially due to a northward retreat of the ...

Soil accretion, organic carbon (C), total nitrogen (N), and total phosphorus (P) were measured in wetlands from the headwaters to the mouth of the Altamaha River, Georgia, USA to assess how sediment deposition, C sequestration, and N and P burial vary along the waterway. Results suggest that, in the Altamaha River, sediment deposition and P removal are

A hierarchical life cycle model for Atlantic salmon stock assessment at the North Atlantic basin scale [PDF]
We developed an integrated hierarchical Bayesian life cycle model that simultaneously estimates the abundance of post-smolts at sea, post-smolt survival rates, and proportions maturing as 1SW, for all SU in Northern Europe, Southern Europe and North America.

ABSTRACT A Late Upper Paleolithic (LUP) site containing Ahrensburgian‐type stone tools has been discovered at South Cuidrach, Isle of Skye, Scotland. Together with a group of intertidal stone circular alignments also recently discovered on the island, this new evidence for the occupation of northern Scotland also represents the most northerly LUP site ...
