Fast recovery of North Atlantic sea level in response to atmospheric carbon dioxide removal

open access: yesCommunications Earth & Environment
Sea level rise due to anthropogenic warming threatens coastal environments and human societies, but its regional reversibility under successful climate mitigation efforts remains unclear.

Mid-pliocene Atlantic Meridional Overturning Circulation not unlike modern [PDF]

open access: yesClimate of the Past, 2013
In the Pliocene Model Intercomparison Project (PlioMIP), eight state-of-the-art coupled climate models have simulated the mid-Pliocene warm period (mPWP, 3.264 to 3.025 Ma).

High‐Resolution Temperature and Precipitation Variability in Northeast Asia Since the Last Glacial Maximum Recorded in an Annually Laminated Maar Lake

open access: yesJournal of Geophysical Research: Atmospheres, Volume 131, Issue 20, 28 October 2026.
Abstract Temperature and precipitation variability in monsoonal Asia is central to understanding regional climate dynamics and global teleconnections. How post‐LGM warming and hydroclimate change unfolded in Northeast Asia, and how they were linked to external forcing, remain poorly constrained.

Submesoscale flows impact Agulhas leakage in ocean simulations

open access: yesCommunications Earth & Environment, 2021
Leakage of warm, salty waters from the Indian Ocean into the Atlantic increases by up to 40 % in high-resolution numerical ocean model simulations, suggesting that low-resolution models underestimate this key part of the global meridional overturning ...

Super Warm Early Eocene Simulations With HadGEM3‐GC31‐LL

open access: yesJournal of Geophysical Research: Atmospheres, Volume 131, Issue 19, 16 October 2026.
Abstract The early Eocene Climatic Optimum (EECO; 53.3–49.1 million years ago) represents the period of greatest sustained warmth in the Cenozoic (last 66 million years), with proxy‐data indicating global‐mean temperatures 10–16°C above preindustrial and atmospheric CO2 ${\text{CO}}_{2}$ concentrations of 1,200–2,500 ppmv.

Geothermal Heating and its Influence on the Meridional Overturning Circulation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2001
The effect of geothermal heating on the meridional overturning circulation is examined using an idealized, coarse-resolution ocean general circulation model.

Variability of the Atlantic Meridional Overturning Circulation in CCSM4 [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Climate, 2012
Abstract Atlantic meridional overturning circulation (AMOC) variability is documented in the Community Climate System Model, version 4 (CCSM4) preindustrial control simulation that uses nominal 1° horizontal resolution in all its components.

Steric‐Setup Effects on US East Coast Sea‐Level Change

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, Volume 53, Issue 19, 16 October 2026.
Abstract The extent to which coastal sea levels co‐vary with open‐ocean variability is explored through evaluation of a balanced dynamics framework relating sea level with pressure, density, and velocity along the continental shelf and slope seafloor.

Simulated variability of the Atlantic meridional overturning circulation [PDF]

open access: yesClimate Dynamics, 2004
To examine the multi-annual to decadal scale variability of the Atlantic Meridional Overturning Circulation (AMOC) we conducted a four-member ensemble with a daily reanalysis forced, medium-resolution global version of the isopycnic coordinate ocean model MICOM, and a 300-years integration with the fully coupled Bergen Climate Model (BCM).

Forced changes in Atlantic overturning are distinctly fingerprinted by South Atlantic western boundary transports

open access: yesCommunications Earth & Environment
As a major ocean circulation system, the Atlantic Meridional Overturning Circulation (AMOC) may approach a critical transition under anthropogenic forcing, yet how large-scale AMOC changes imprint on regional circulation pathways remains incompletely ...
