Sub-decadal- to decadal-scale climate cyclicity during the Holsteinian interglacial (MIS 11) evidenced in annually laminated sediments [PDF]
To unravel the short-term climate variability during Marine Isotope Stage (MIS) 11, which represents a close analogue to the Holocene with regard to orbital boundary conditions, we performed microfacies and time series analyses on a ~3200-yr-long record ...

Response of North Pacific and North Atlantic decadal variability to weak global warming
The Pacific Decadal Oscillation (PDO) and the Atlantic Multidecadal Variability (AMV) are the two dominant low-frequency modes in the climate system. This research focused on the response of these two modes under weak global warming.

The Antarctic continent contains the majority of the global ice volume and plays an important role in a changing climate. The nature and causes of Antarctic climate variability are, however, poorly understood beyond interannual time scales due to the ...

Multidecadal variability in the North Atlantic [PDF]
The North Atlantic (NA) region plays a key role in the global climate system and exhibits pronounced multidecadal climate variability. There is a controversy about the nature of the multidecadal climate variability in the NA region.

Whether multidecadal sea surface temperature (SST) variability in the Atlantic and Pacific basins originates internally or is externally forced has long been debated.

Multidecadal change of winter cyclonic activity in the Mediterranean associated with AMO and PDO
The paper is devoted to analysis of the cold half-year (October to March) frequency of cyclones in the Mediterranean-Black Sea region associated with the global processes in the ocean-atmosphere system - the Pacific Decadal Oscillation (PDO) and Atlantic

AbstractThe Atlantic multidecadal oscillation (AMO) signature in southern South America (SA) is examined using the surface air temperature (T-air) of Punta Arenas, Chile (53.0°S, 70.85°W), during the 1888–2016 period. The T-air shows multidecadal oscillations with a significant positive correlation of 0.77 to the AMO index.

Atlantic multidecadal oscillation and its manifestations in the Atlantic-European region
We present a brief survey of the works devoted to the investigation of the Atlantic Multidecadal Oscillation, i.e., of the quasiperiodic variations of sea-surface temperature in the North Atlantic with typical time scales of 50–100 yr. This oscillation is a manifestation of the natural variability in the ocean-atmosphere system.

Impact of Atlantic multidecadal oscillations on India/Sahel rainfall and Atlantic hurricanes
Prominent multidecadal fluctuations of India summer rainfall, Sahel summer rainfall, and Atlantic Hurricane activity have been observed during the 20th century. Understanding their mechanism(s) will have enormous social and economic implications. We first use statistical analyses to show that these climate phenomena are coherently linked.

North Atlantic Multidecadal SST Oscillation: External forcing versus internal variability
The Atlantic Multi-decadal Oscillation (AMO) depicts the swings of North Atlantic basin-wide sea surface temperature (SST) between warm and cold phases on a multi-decadal time scale.
