Contrasting the synoptic drivers of the UK heatwaves of 1976, 2003, 2018 and 2022
UK summer heatwaves are dictated by the polar jet stream position and sea surface temperature (SST) variability, affecting the Summer North Atlantic Oscillation (SNAO) index. The SNAO can determine and influence the Central England Precipitation (CEP) and Central England Temperature (CET).

Assessing Dominant Uncertainties in Future Precipitation Projections for a Hurricane‐Prone Region
Abstract Accurate projection of future precipitation remains challenging due to uncertainties in reference data sets, bias correction and global climate models (GCMs). Here, we evaluated these uncertainties across 13 major cities of the U.S. Gulf Coast, a hurricane‐prone region, under 192 historical and future scenarios.

Advancing Ecological Understanding and Sustainable Management of Small Pelagic Fish
ABSTRACT Small pelagic fish (SPF) are critical to the trophodynamic structure and function of marine systems and support some of the most valuable and socially important fisheries worldwide. Their “boom and bust” population dynamics, shifts in distribution, and importance as forage resources for other fish stocks place unique challenges to assessing ...

On the Pacific Decadal Oscillation and the Atlantic Multidecadal Oscillation: Might they be related?
The nature of the Pacific Decadal Oscillation (PDO) is investigated based upon analyses of sea surface temperature observations over the last century. The PDO is suggested to be comprised of a 20 year quasi‐periodic oscillation and a lower frequency component with a characteristic timescale of 60 years. The 20 year quasi‐periodic oscillation is clearly

The recent markedly reduced recruitment success (recruitment per spawner stock biomass) of Northeast Arctic cod (Gadus morhua, Gadidae) is seemingly largely attributed to the joint negative effect of increased temperature and cannibalism but also predation on the postlarvae by Northeast Atlantic mackerel (Scomber scombrus, Scombridae).

Arabian Sea (AS) warming has been significantly accelerated since the 1990s, in particular in the spring season. Here we link the AS warming changes to the Atlantic multidecadal oscillation (AMO). A set of Atlantic pacemaker experiments with a slab mixed‐

Decadal Rapid Change in Energetic Carrying Capacity for Juvenile Chum Salmon in the Sanriku Coast
ABSTRACT Adult returns to coastal rivers in Sanriku, located near the southernmost area of chum salmon distribution, have declined since 2010. Climate‐induced fluctuations in juvenile prey availability may affect growth and survival, which are linked to adult returns.

Over the past 60 years, noticeable changes have been observed in the main hydroclimatological variables, driven by both natural and anthropogenic factors. In the context of climate change, such behaviour may adversely affect the state's economic activities, as well as increase the recurrence of extreme events in the region.

Abstract This study examines the large‐scale atmospheric response to reduced evapotranspiration during droughts in the Western U.S., using an observation‐based regression method and numerical experiments with a global climate model. We found that Western U.S.
