Ocean Heat Convergence and North Atlantic Multidecadal Heat Content Variability
Abstract We construct an upper ocean (0–1000 m) North Atlantic heat budget (26°–67°N) for the period 1950–2020 using multiple observational datasets and an eddy-permitting global ocean model. On multidecadal time scales, ocean heat transport convergence controls ocean heat content (OHC) tendency in most regions of the North Atlantic with little role ...

Cultural Responses to Climate Change During the Late Holocene [PDF]
This study describes the effect of drought on past civilizations and peoples and their response as civilizations or cultures. The site includes four case studies drawn from New and Old World civilizations that document societal responses to prolonged ...

A Comparison of Diagnostics for AMOC Heat Transport Applied to the CESM Large Ensemble
Atlantic time‐mean heat transport is northward at all latitudes and exhibits strong multidecadal variability between about 30°N and 55°N. Atlantic heat transport variability influences many aspects of the climate system, including regional surface ...

Climate-related hydrological regimes and their effects on abundance of juvenile blue crabs (Callinectes sapidus) in the northcentral Gulf of Mexico [PDF]
The abundance of juvenile blue crabs (Callinectes sapidus) in the northcentral Gulf of Mexico was investigated in response to climate-related hydrological regimes.

Planetary harmonics in the historical Hungarian aurora record (1523-1960)
The historical Hungarian auroral record extends from 1523 to 1960 and is longer than the sunspot record. Harmonic analysis reveals four major multidecadal secular cycles forming an approximate harmonic set at periods of 42.85, 57.13, 85.7 and 171.4 years.

Variability of North Atlantic hurricanes: seasonal versus individual-event features
Tropical cyclones are affected by a large number of climatic factors, which translates into complex patterns of occurrence. The variability of annual metrics of tropical-cyclone activity has been intensively studied, in particular since the sudden ...

Pivotal Role of Mixed‐Layer Depth in Tropical Atlantic Multidecadal Variability
The tropical arm of Atlantic Multidecadal Variability (AMV) influences climate worldwide, yet the mechanisms generating it remain unclear. Here, we examine experiments with sea surface temperature (SST)‐restoring in the extratropical North Atlantic in ...
