Making a Dust Source Map: Can We Build, Implement, and Learn From a Reflectance Derived Sediment Supply Map in the Unified Forecast System (UFS)?

open access: yesJournal of Geophysical Research: Atmospheres, Volume 131, Issue 7, 16 April 2026.
Abstract Mineral dust is an important part of the climate system we live in. Dust hotspots in deserts and arid regions emit tons of dust annually, influenced by local meteorology and soil characteristics. As one of the most abundant aerosols, it is important to characterize and define the climate and human impacts of dust.

Microbial diversity of Atlantic Rainforest ponds assessed by nanopore sequencing

open access: yes
ABSTRACTDespite their limited size, ponds are ecologically important habitats that harbor rich microbial communities and play key roles in global biodiversity and biogeochemical cycling. In this study, we conducted a metagenomic survey of microbial diversity in three ponds - Vermelha, Grande, and Furnas - situated within the Atlantic Rainforest biome ...

Flux estimates of isoprene, methanol and acetone from airborne PTR-MS measurements over the tropical rainforest during the GABRIEL 2005 campaign [PDF]

open access: yes
Tropical forests are a strong source of biogenic volatile organic compounds (BVOCs) to the atmosphere which can potentially impact the atmospheric oxidation capacity. Here we present airborne and ground-based BVOC measurements representative for the long

Molecular diversity and polyparasitism of avian trypanosomes in the Brazilian Atlantic Rainforest

open access: yesAnais da Academia Brasileira de Ciências
The current study proposes to investigate the diversity and phylogeny of trypanosomes parasitizing wild birds from the Brazilian Atlantic Forest. Cytological examination was carried out by light microscopy of blood smears and positive birds were selected for amplification of the 18S rDNA sequence through PCR.
