Insight into Sources of Benzene, TCE, and PFOA/PFOS in Groundwater at Naval Air Station Whiting Field, Florida, through Numerical Particle-Tracking Simulations

open access: yesHydrology
Past waste-disposal activities at Naval Air Station Whiting Field (NASWF) have led to elevated concentrations of contaminants in the underlying sand and gravel aquifer.

Trichloroethylene and tetrachloroethylene in Atlantic waters [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Geophysical Research: Oceans, 2001
Measurements of trichloroethylene (C2HCl3) and tetrachloroethylene (C2Cl4) in waters of the North Atlantic are reported. They show that at the times of sampling both gases are supersaturated in the surface ocean and that there are therefore fluxes of each into the atmosphere.

Deepwater ichthyofauna communities of two seamounts from the eastern Atlantic Ocean: results from exploratory surveys

open access: yesFrontiers in Marine Science, 2015
Deepwater fish communities were sampled during exploratory surveys on two seamounts of the north- and central eastern part of the Atlantic Ocean. Demersal fishes from Ampère Seamount, located between Madeira and the Portuguese mainland, were sampled ...

KALMAR - „Kurile-Kamchatka and Aleutean Marginal Sea-Island Arc Systems: Geodynamic and Climate Interaction in Space and Time” – an integrated science approach between Russia and Germany [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
EGU2010-2934 The exploration of the arctic seas require an integrated approach applying different infrastructures. In Fall 2009 German and Russian scientists performed a geo marine cruise off Kamchatka and in the western Bering Sea within the frame of ...

Deciphering Paleoceanographic Shifts Inferred from the Foraminiferal Record of the Western Svalbard Slope (Bellsund Drift) over the Past Century

open access: yesJournal of Marine Science and Engineering
The objective of this study was to reconstruct the last century’s climatic oscillations in the Arctic region around the Fram Strait using high-resolution analysis of foraminiferal assemblages as proxies for surface and deep-water mass properties. In this

Formation of the Atlantic Meridional Overturning Circulation lower limb is critically dependent on Atlantic-Arctic mixing

open access: yesNature Communications
Deep-water formation in the eastern Subpolar North Atlantic Ocean (eSPNA) and Nordic Seas is crucial for maintaining the lower limb of the Atlantic Meridional Overturning Circulation (AMOC), of consequence for global climate.

Circulation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Circulation is important to distributions of salt, of deep-ocean heat and hence regional climate, of pollutants and of many species carried by the flow during their lifecycle. Currents affect offshore operations and habitats. Five sections from 1957 to

Neoglacial cooling culminates in rapid sea ice oscillations in eastern Fram Strait [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
EGU2011-407 The spatial and temporal distribution of sea ice in the subpolar North Atlantic is mainly controlled by the advection of warm Atlantic Water via the Norwegian and West Spitsbergen Current in eastern Fram Strait.
