A hybrid system for de‐icing made of gradient polymer coatings, deposited on aluminum coupled with an electromechanical system, is demonstrated as an effective and durable strategy for reducing drastically ice adhesion. The system is capable of detaching ice blocks over the coating in less than 1 s, regardless of the ice type and covered area ...

Atmospheric composition, chemistry, and clouds [PDF]
Venus’ atmosphere has a rich chemistry involving interactions among sulfur, chlorine, nitrogen, hydrogen, and oxygen radicals. The chemical regimes in the atmosphere range from ion-neutral reactions in the ionosphere to photochemistry in the middle atmosphere to thermal equilibrium chemistry and surface-atmosphere reactions in the lower atmosphere.

Photochemistry in Terrestrial Exoplanet Atmospheres I: Photochemistry Model and Benchmark Cases [PDF]
We present a comprehensive photochemistry model for exploration of the chemical composition of terrestrial exoplanet atmospheres. The photochemistry model is designed from the ground up to have the capacity to treat all types of terrestrial planet atmospheres, ranging from oxidizing through reducing, which makes the code suitable for applications for ...

Impact of Iron Contamination on Liquid Properties and Microstructural Evolution in AlSi20
Recycled aluminum is much more energy conservative and sustainable than primary aluminum. However, the iron contamination in secondary aluminum is vastly responsible for the degradation of the material properties. Herein, it is aimed to evaluate the influence of iron contamination in hypereutectic Al–Si alloy through thermodynamic as well as ...

Upper atmospheres and ionospheres of planets and satellites [PDF]
The upper atmospheres of the planets and their satellites are more directly exposed to sunlight and solar wind particles than the surface or the deeper atmospheric layers. At the altitudes where the associated energy is deposited, the atmospheres may become ionized and are referred to as ionospheres.

Al–Si alloys are particularly in demand for automotive and electronic applications, thanks to their excellent wear and thermal properties. Nevertheless, when processed by conventional methods with low cooling rates, the coarse primary Si phases are responsible for increasing brittleness and inducing crack propagation.

This study investigates the bond quality of co‐extruded aluminum–titanium hybrid profiles, focusing on the lateral angular co‐extrusion (LACE) process. It examines how heat treatments (HT) affect intermetallic phase formation, bond strength, and material properties.

Concentrations and isotope ratios of helium and other noble gases in the Earth's atmosphere during 1978-2011 [PDF]
The evolution of the atmospheric noble gas composition during the past few decades has hardly been studied because, in contrast to many other atmospheric gases, systematic time-series measurements have not been available. Based on theoretical considerations, the atmospheric noble gas isotope composition is assumed to be stable on time scales of up to ...

A Different Perspective on the Solid Lubrication Performance of Black Phosphorous: Friend or Foe?
Researchers investigate black phosphorous (BP) as a standalone solid lubricant coating through ball‐on‐disc linear‐reciprocating sliding experiments in dry conditions. Testing on different metals shows BP doesn't universally reduce friction and wear. However, it achieves 33% friction reduction on rougher iron surfaces and 23% wear reduction on aluminum.
