Light-absorption of dust and elemental carbon in snow in the Indian Himalayas and the Finnish Arctic [PDF]

open access: yesAtmospheric Measurement Techniques, 2018
Light-absorbing impurities (LAIs) deposited in snow have the potential to substantially affect the snow radiation budget, with subsequent implications for snow melt.

Limitation of Atmospheric Composition by Combustion–Explosion in Exoplanetary Atmospheres [PDF]

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal, 2018
Abstract This work presents theoretical studies that combine aspects of combustion and explosion theory with exoplanetary atmospheric science. Super-Earths could possess a large amount of molecular hydrogen depending on disk, planetary, and stellar properties.

RIPK4 function interferes with melanoma cell adhesion and metastasis

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
RIPK4 promotes melanoma growth and spread. RIPK4 levels increase as skin lesions progress to melanoma. CRISPR/Cas9‐mediated deletion of RIPK4 causes melanoma cells to form less compact spheroids, reduces their migratory and invasive abilities and limits tumour growth and dissemination in mouse models.

Soot Particle Agglomeration Inlet (SPAI) for Enabling Online Chemical Composition Measurement of Nanoparticles with the Aerosol Mass Spectrometer

open access: yesAerosol and Air Quality Research, 2021
Nanoparticles are a topic of interest because of their effects on human health and the climate, but the current options for evaluating their chemical composition—one of the key properties that determine the mechanisms of these effects—remain very limited

Atmospheric composition affects heat- and mass-transfer processes [PDF]

open access: yes, 1970
For environmental control system functions sensitive to atmospheric composition, components are test-operated in helium-oxygen and nitrogen-oxygen mixtures, pure oxygen, and air.

EDNRB‐dependent endothelin signaling reduces proliferation and promotes proneural‐to‐mesenchymal transition in gliomas

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Glioma cells mainly express the endothelin receptor EDNRB, while EDNRA is restricted to a perivascular tumor subpopulation. Endothelin signaling reduces glioma cell proliferation while promoting migration and a proneural‐to‐mesenchymal transition associated with poor prognosis. This pathway activates Ca2+, K+, ERK, and STAT3 signalings and is regulated

Ranges of Atmospheric Mass and Composition of Super Earth Exoplanets [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
Terrestrial-like exoplanets may obtain atmospheres from three primary sources: Capture of nebular gases, degassing during accretion, and degassing from subsequent tectonic activity.

Cell‐cycle‐specific lesion evolution rather than inhibition of double‐strand‐break repair underpins cisplatin radiosensitization

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
We analyze cisplatin–DNA adducts (CDAs) and double‐strand breaks (DSBs) in a cell‐cycle‐dependent manner. We find that CDAs form similarly across all cell cycle phases. DSBs arise only in S‐phase. CDAs might not directly impair DSB repair, but S‐phase DSB lesions evolve in the presence of CDAs and disrupt repair in G2, also causing radiosensitization ...

Measurement report: Wintertime aerosol characterization at an urban traffic site in Helsinki, Finland [PDF]

open access: yesAtmospheric Chemistry and Physics
Physical and chemical properties of particulate matter and concentrations of trace gases were measured at an urban site in Helsinki, Finland, for 5 weeks to investigate the effect of wintertime conditions on pollutants.

Evaluation of the performance of a particle concentrator for online instrumentation [PDF]

open access: yesAtmospheric Measurement Techniques, 2014
The performance of the miniature Versatile Aerosol Concentration Enrichment System (m-VACES; Geller et al., 2005) was investigated in laboratory and field studies using online instruments. Laboratory tests focused on the behavior of monodisperse ammonium
