Atmospheric Instability and Its Associated Oscillations in the Tropics [PDF]
The interaction between tropical clouds and radiation is studied in the context of the weak temperature gradient approximation, using very low order systems (e.g., a two-column two-layer model) as a zeroth-order approximation.

Thermo-Resistive Instability of Hot Planetary Atmospheres [PDF]
The atmospheres of hot Jupiters and other strongly-forced exoplanets are susceptible to a thermal instability in the presence of ohmic dissipation, weak magnetic drag and strong winds.

Atmospheric instability as a loss of a metastable equilibrium [PDF]
General thermodynamic theory of metastable states is used in this short note to try to understand better atmospheric instabilities. It is shown that not only cooling of a cloud can lead to rain, but heating also, especially when there are charged water drops in a cloud (in this case we have rain with lightning).

Study of Atmospheric Instability of June in the Period 2004-2019 in the North-Western Region of Romania [PDF]
The meteorological radar, due to its temporal and spatial resolution, has become an indispensable and necessary tool in the meteorologist's hand in order to create a climatology of the meteorological phenomena, to identify synoptic-orographic mechanisms ...

Climatic analysis of effective jet streams frequency on extreme precipitations in west of Iran
In this study, the frequency of effective jet streams was analyzed in extreme and widespread precipitations in the west of Iran. For this purpose, the daily precipitation of 69 synoptic and climatic stations over 18,624 days (1961–2010) were selected ...

Evaluation of Convective Environments in the NARCliM Regional Climate Modeling System for Australia
Severe thunderstorms lead to multiple hazards including torrential precipitation, flash flood, hail, lightning, and wind gusts. The meso- to micro-scale nature of thunderstorms impose great challenges from understanding individual storm dynamics, storm ...
