The structure of the atmosphere of Uranus
Icarus, 1977Models of the interior of Uranus suggest that the abundances of such substances as CH4 are greatly enhanced with respect to solar abundances of heavy elements. Such enhancement leads to a new type of model atmosphere for Uranus, which agrees with observation if the internal energy flux is small (no more than 10%) compared with the absorbed solar energy.

THE COMPOSITION AND STRUCTURE OF THE TERRESTRIAL ATMOSPHERE
1963Abstract : After a generel description of the various regions of the terrestrial atmospbere, an analysis of physical conditions leading to the knowledge of the heterosphere is given. Molecular dissociation and diffusion in the lower thermosphere are introduced to determine the concentration of various constituents (N2, O2, O, N, He, H).

The structure of the Uranus atmosphere
Icarus, 1980Abstract A series of radiative/connvective models is presented for the Uranus atmosphere for various methane-to-hydrogen mixing ratios and internal heat fluxes. The variation of flux through the atmosphere, which is largely defined by absorption of sunlight in methane bands, the partial pressure of methane, which is taken to be limited by saturated ...

SAE Technical Paper Series, 1962
<div class="htmlview paragraph">This study of the characteristics of the upper atmosphere are directed primarily toward determining their effects on space vehicles. Methods of calculating density, pressure, and temperature, and also the variations of these values caused by diurnal, seasonal, and solar influences, are discussed in relation to ...

ON THE STRUCTURE OF ATMOSPHERIC VORTICES
Journal of Meteorology, 1951Abstract Several features of atmospheric vortices (symmetric tropical cyclones) are examined kinematically by use of the vorticity and circulation theorems. First, generation of a region of negative relative vorticity around a tropical cyclone is derived from the vorticity theorem, and then its necessity is shown from the divergence of integrals of the

The Structure of the Atmospheric Layers
1970Since the time of Pascal and Torricelli, who ventured (already knowing the weight of air) to measure the pressure of the atmosphere in centimeters of mercury and to ascertain its variation with altitude, the science we now call aeronomy has, indeed, made a certain amount of progress. Pascal’s decisive experiment, at Puy de Dome, took place on September

The Structure and Evolution of the Atmosphere
2003The application of data assimilation to observations of a physical system, e.g. the atmosphere, demands a good knowledge of the structure and evolution of the system, as well as the factors that govern them. With such knowledge, it is generally possible to make at least an intelligent estimate of quantities that lie at the core of the data assimilation
