Atmosphere‐Snow Exchange Explains Surface Snow Isotope Variability

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, 2022
AbstractThe climate signal imprinted in the snow isotopic composition allows to infer past climate variability from ice core stable water isotope records. The concurrent evolution of vapor and surface snow isotopic composition between precipitation events indicates that post‐depositional atmosphere‐snow humidity exchange influences the snow and hence ...

Atmospheric Ekman Flows with Variable Eddy Viscosity [PDF]

open access: yesBoundary-Layer Meteorology, 2018
We revisit the classical problem of the behaviour of the wind in the steady atmospheric Ekman layer. We show, for general variable eddy viscosities, that in the Northern Hemisphere the time-averaged ageostrophic wind profile always decays in magnitude and turns clockwise with increasing height.

Atmospheric Circulation Regimes in a Nonlinear Quasi-Geostrophic Model

open access: yesAdvances in Meteorology, 2015
Atmospheric low-frequency variability and circulation regime behavior are investigated in the context of a quasi-geostrophic (QG) three-level T63 model of the wintertime atmospheric circulation over the Northern Hemisphere (NH).

Atmospheric QBO and ENSO indices with high vertical resolution from GNSS radio occultation temperature measurements [PDF]

open access: yesAtmospheric Measurement Techniques, 2018
We provide atmospheric temperature variability indices for the tropical troposphere and stratosphere based on global navigation satellite system (GNSS) radio occultation (RO) temperature measurements. By exploiting the high vertical resolution and the

Chaotic Variability of Ocean Heat Content: Climate-Relevant Features and Observational Implications

open access: yesOceanography, 2018
Global ocean models that admit mesoscale turbulence spontaneously generate interannual-to-multidecadal chaotic intrinsic variability in the absence of atmospheric forcing variability at these timescales.

Decadal variability and trends of the Benguela upwelling system as simulated in a high-resolution ocean simulation [PDF]

open access: yesOcean Science, 2015
Detecting the atmospheric drivers of the Benguela upwelling systems is essential to understand its present variability and its past and future changes.

The single beacon: progresses in understanding Earth as an exoplanet using DSCOVR/EPIC observations

open access: yesFrontiers in Remote Sensing
Almost 6000 exoplanets have thus far been confirmed, revolutionizing our understanding of planetary habitability. Yet, despite the identification of Earth-like exoplanets, definitive evidence of extraterrestrial life remains elusive.

Tau acetylation at K331 has limited impact on tau pathology in vivo

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We mapped tau post‐translational modifications in humanized MAPT knock‐in mice and in amyloid‐bearing double knock‐in mice. Acetylation within the repeat domain, particularly around K331, showed modest increases under amyloid pathology. To test functional relevance, we generated MAPTK331Q knock‐in mice.

Aggressive prostate cancer is associated with pericyte dysfunction

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Tumor‐produced TGF‐β drives pericyte dysfunction in prostate cancer. This dysfunction is characterized by downregulation of some canonical pericyte markers (i.e., DES, CSPG4, and ACTA2) while maintaining the expression of others (i.e., PDGFRB, NOTCH3, and RGS5).

No Robust Sign of Human Influence in the Unprecedented Atmospheric Circulation of Summer 2018 Over Northern Europe

open access: yesEarth's Future
The summer of 2018 was characterized by prolonged heatwaves over Northern Europe, associated with persistent atmospheric blocking, and an unusually northward jet stream location over Scandinavia.
