The newfound relationship between extrachromosomal DNAs and excised signal circles
Extrachromosomal DNAs (ecDNAs) contribute to the progression of many human cancers. In addition, circular DNA by‐products of V(D)J recombination, excised signal circles (ESCs), have roles in cancer progression but have largely been overlooked. In this Review, we explore the roles of ecDNAs and ESCs in cancer development, and highlight why these ...

Shadows and photon rings of a quantum black hole
Recently, a black hole model in loop quantum gravity has been proposed by Lewandowski, Ma, Yang and Zhang (2023) [34]. The metric tensor of the quantum black hole (QBH) is a suitably modified Schwarzschild one.

This study reveals how the mitochondrial protein Slm35 is regulated in Saccharomyces cerevisiae. The authors identify stress‐responsive DNA elements and two upstream open reading frames (uORFs) in the 5′ untranslated region of SLM35. One uORF restricts translation, and its mutation increases Slm35 protein levels and mitophagy.

In situ molecular organization and heterogeneity of the Legionella Dot/Icm T4SS
We present a nearly complete in situ model of the Legionella Dot/Icm type IV secretion system, revealing its central secretion channel and identifying new components. Using cryo‐electron tomography with AI‐based modeling, our work highlights the structure, variability, and mechanism of this complex nanomachine, advancing understanding of bacterial ...

Robust holonomic quantum gates via cyclic evolution protection
Nonadiabatic holonomic quantum computation provides a promising approach toward fault-tolerant quantum control, due to its simple requirements for energy level structure and intrinsic robustness stemming from non-Abelian geometric phases.

Structure identification methods for atomistic simulations of crystalline materials
We discuss existing and new computational analysis techniques to classify local atomic arrangements in large-scale atomistic computer simulations of crystalline solids. This article includes a performance comparison of typical analysis algorithms such as

Sequence determinants of RNA G‐quadruplex unfolding by Arg‐rich regions
We show that Arg‐rich peptides selectively unfold RNA G‐quadruplexes, but not RNA stem‐loops or DNA/RNA duplexes. This length‐dependent activity is inhibited by acidic residues and is conserved among SR and SR‐related proteins (SRSF1, SRSF3, SRSF9, U1‐70K, and U2AF1).

The Ile181Asn variant of human UDP‐xylose synthase (hUXS1), associated with a short‐stature genetic syndrome, has previously been reported as inactive. Our findings demonstrate that Ile181Asn‐hUXS1 retains catalytic activity similar to the wild‐type but exhibits reduced stability, a looser oligomeric state, and an increased tendency to precipitate ...

Sensitivity to Dispersion Forces in First-Principles Modeling of Disordered Chalcogenides
The inclusion of dispersion (van der Waals, vdW) forces in first-principles modeling of disordered chalcogenides is analyzed and critically discussed in view of their impact on the atomic structure. To this purpose we considered the case of glassy GeTe4.

Energy levels of light atoms in strong magnetic fields
In this review article we provide an overview of the field of atomic structure of light atoms in strong magnetic fields. There is a very rich history of this field which dates back to the very birth of quantum mechanics.
