The Role of Copper‐Oxide Species in Copper‐Catalyzed Electrochemical CO2 Reduction

open access: yesChemElectroChem, EarlyView.
Oxide‐derived copper (OD‐Cu) exhibits enhanced selectivity for C2+ products in electrochemical CO2 reduction. In situ Raman and depth‐profiling X‐ray photoelectron spectroscopy reveal residual defective oxidic Cu species (CuxO) on the roughened OD‐Cu surface.

Assessing the Performance of Exchange‐Correlation Density Functionals in Describing the Iron‐Catalyzed Ammonia Synthesis System

open access: yesChemistryEurope, EarlyView.
Using density functional theory calculations, and by comparing calculated gas‐phase formation energies, bulk cohesive energies, lattice constants, and nitrogen and ammonia adsorption energies on Fe and Fe‐nitride surfaces to experimental estimates, the accuracy of several XC functionals is assessed for modeling iron‐catalyzed ammonia synthesis. Density

Metal‐Organic Framework‐Derived Partially Oxidized Cu Electrocatalysts for Efficient CO2 Reduction Reaction Toward C2+ Products

open access: yesCarbon Energy, EarlyView.
Cu‐MOFs are valuable for CO2 reduction to yield C2+ products, but active site design challenges persist due to structural instability. A novel strategy involving thermal annealing and electrochemical activation reconstructs Cu‐MOFs into Cuδ+ species. This optimized catalyst exhibits exceptional selectivity for C2+ products, enhancing *CO intermediate ...
