Contact-Reactions in Atopy

open access: yesThe Journal of Immunology, 1940
Summary A special type of contact-reaction to an oil-free preparation of silkworm has been described. This form of hypersensitiveness seems to occur most frequently in atopic children. It is not based upon the presence of atopic reagin and cannot be passively transferred to normal skin.

Wildfires and Atopic Diseases: A Review

open access: yesAllergy, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Wildfire smoke is a major environmental health threat that has increased in frequency and severity in recent years. A hazardous component of wildfire smoke is particulate matter ≤ 2.5 μm (PM2.5). There is evidence to suggest that exposure to wildfire PM2.5 may increase the risk of developing or exacerbating atopic diseases, such as asthma ...

Bronchial responsiveness is related to increased exhaled NO (FE(NO)) in non-smokers and decreased FE(NO) in smokers.

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2012
RationaleBoth atopy and smoking are known to be associated with increased bronchial responsiveness. Fraction of nitric oxide (NO) in the exhaled air (FE(NO)), a marker of airways inflammation, is decreased by smoking and increased by atopy. NO has also a

B‐Cell Repertoire of Children With Atopic Dermatitis Exhibits Altered IgE Maturation Associated With Allergic Food Sensitization

open access: yesAllergy, EarlyView.
IgH repertoire sequencing of a large atopic dermatitis cohort reveal reduced IgE somatic hypermutation and increased IgE diversity associated with food allergen sensitization. Presence of a dog during the first year of life is associated with increased IgE somatic hypermutation, possibly countering the effect of food sensitization.

Long‐Term Effect of Allergen Immunotherapy in Responder Local Allergic Rhinitis Patients: Symptom Control, and Prevention of Asthma and Allergic Sensitizations

open access: yesAllergy, EarlyView.
LAR patients who respond to AIT during the first year and are treated for two more years continue improving (less symptoms and medication intake) during the following seven years. AIT prevents the onset of asthma and allergic sensitizations in responder LAR individuals during the seven years following discontinuation.
