A Genetic Method for Distinguishing Cryptic Pocillopora Species in French Polynesia Without Sequencing

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 16, Issue 10, October 2026.
This study presents restriction fragment length polymorphism (RFLP) digests that identify the six species of Pocillopora (P. acuta, P. cf. effusa, P. grandis, P. meandrina, P. tuahiniensis, and P. verrucosa) found in French Polynesia, without sequencing.

Biology and Comparative Mitogenomics of Psyttalia carinata, Newly Recorded From China as a Parasitoid of Rhagoletis batava

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 16, Issue 10, October 2026.
Psyttalia carinata is newly recorded from China and was directly confirmed as a solitary larval–pupal koinobiont endoparasitoid of the sea buckthorn fruit fly, Rhagoletis batava. Field surveys, host rearing, dissections, and longevity experiments characterized its occurrence and biology, while Illumina sequencing yielded a complete 15,633‐bp ...

A rapid screening with direct sequencing from blood samples for the diagnosis of Leigh syndrome

open access: yesMolecular Genetics and Metabolism Reports, 2014
Large numbers of genes are responsible for Leigh syndrome (LS), making genetic confirmation of LS difficult. We screened our patients with LS using a limited set of 21 primers encompassing the frequently reported gene for the respiratory chain complexes ...

Mitogenomic Insights Into the Ancient Split and Cryptic Diversity of the Poecilochirus carabi Complex (Acari: Mesostigmata)

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 16, Issue 10, October 2026.
Mitochondrial genomes of Poecilochirus mites reveal a paraphyletic genus and uncover deep cryptic speciation within the P. carabi complex. Two divergent lineages (BJ1 and BJ2) show a cox1 genetic distance of 0.409 and an Eocene divergence time of ~52.4 million years ago, predating the split between two morphologically recognized species.

FishMitoCleaner: Automated Stop Codon Processing and Quality Control of Fish Mitochondrial Protein‐Coding Sequences

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 16, Issue 10, October 2026.
FishMitoCleaner automates quality control of fish mitochondrial protein‐coding sequences, correctly handling both complete and incomplete stop codons while protecting terminal TGA codons as tryptophan residues. This tool requires no programming expertise and produces analysis‐ready sequences in a single command, resolving common errors that bias ...

Computational Prediction of the Therapeutic Mechanisms From the Turmeric‐Pueraria‐Coix Seed Botanical Formula in Rheumatoid Arthritis

open access: yesFood Science &Nutrition, Volume 14, Issue 10, October 2026.
Overview of the integrated computational framework used to investigate the Turmeric–Pueraria–Coix seed formula in rheumatoid arthritis. Phytochemical and disease‐associated targets were integrated with ferroptosis and oxidative‐stress genes, multicohort transcriptomics, machine learning, structural modeling, and single‐cell in silico perturbation to ...

Host plant‐specific volatiles of Beauveria bassiana‐colonized plants initiate trophic plant–aphid–predator cascades

open access: yesPest Management Science, Volume 82, Issue 10, Page 9538-9552, October 2026.
Endophytic colonization of melon plants by B. bassiana modifies the crop volatile profiles in a genotype‐dependent manner. A predator choice is biased toward endophytically colonized plants infested with aphids revealing a guardian within effect of the fungus of great potential in integrated pest management.
