Requirement of a Membrane Potential for the Posttranslational Transfer of Proteins into Mitochondsria [PDF]

open access: yes, 1982
Posttranslational transfer of most precursor proteins into mitochondria is dependent on energization of the mitochondria. Experiments were carried out to determine whether the membrane potential or the intramitochondrial ATP is the immediate energy ...

Biomimetic Copper‐Doped Nano‐Aluminum Adjuvant Potentiates Therapy in Chemoresistant Acute Myeloid Leukemia

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
We developed a novel copper‐doped aluminum nano‐adjuvant (CuNA) to overcome cytarabine resistance in acute myeloid leukemia (AML). CuNA effectively sensitizes drug‐resistant AML cells to cytarabine by inducing mitochondrial dysfunction and inhibiting HMGCR/GPX4 to amplify ferroptosis.

Na+/K+-ATPase: ion pump, signal transducer, or cytoprotective protein, and novel biological functions

open access: yesNeural Regeneration Research
Na+/K+-ATPase is a transmembrane protein that has important roles in the maintenance of electrochemical gradients across cell membranes by transporting three Na+ out of and two K+ into cells.

A New 3D Colon on a Chip to Decipher the Influence of Mechanical Forces on the Physiological Cellular Ecosystem

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
To dissect how mechanical forces influence intestinal physiology, we developed a stretchable 3D colon‐on‐chip that integrates tunable topography, stiffness and peristalsis‐like motion within a physiologically relevant microenvironment. We showed that stretching is a dominant factor governing epithelial behavior, markedly enhancing proliferation and ...

CORE: Cholesterol Altered Lipid Nanoparticles for Splenic Expression of mRNA Payloads

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
In this paper researchers introduce CORE LNPs, a new class of lipid nanoparticles engineered to redirect mRNA expression away from the liver and into the spleen, a key immune organ. By combining chemical design with computational tools, they created cholesterol analogs that enable precise spleen‐targeted expression, providing greater applications for ...

Bacteria‐Responsive Nanostructured Drug Delivery Systems for Targeted Antimicrobial Therapy

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Bacteria‐responsive nanocarriers are designed to release antimicrobials only in the presence of infection‐specific cues. This selective activation ensures drug release precisely at the site of infection, avoiding premature or indiscriminate release, and enhancing efficacy.

The curious case of vacuolar ATPase: regulation of signaling pathways

open access: yesMolecular Cancer, 2018
The Vacuolar ATPase (V-ATPase) is a proton pump responsible for controlling the intracellular and extracellular pH of cells. The structure of V-ATPase has been highly conserved among all eukaryotic cells and is involved in diverse functions across ...

From Lab to Landscape: Environmental Biohybrid Robotics for Ecological Futures

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
This Perspective explores environmental biohybrid robotics, integrating living tissues, microorganisms, and insects for operation in real‐world ecosystems. It traces the leap from laboratory experiments to forests, wetlands, and urban environments and discusses key challenges, development pathways, and opportunities for ecological monitoring and ...

V-ATPase Dysfunction in the Brain: Genetic Insights and Therapeutic Opportunities

open access: yesCells
Vacuolar-type ATPase (v-ATPase) is a multimeric protein complex that regulates H+ transport across membranes and intra-cellular organelle acidification. Catabolic processes, such as endocytic degradation and autophagy, strictly rely on v-ATPase-dependent

F-actin reorganization by V-ATPase inhibition in prostate cancer

open access: yesBiology Open, 2017
The vacuolar ATPase (V-ATPase) proton pump sustains cellular pH homeostasis, and its inhibition triggers numerous stress responses. However, the cellular mechanisms involved remain largely elusive in cancer cells.
