A Terrestrial Thermometer Using Carbonate Clumped Isotopes From Gar Scales

Abstract We present a new clumped isotope calibration relating temperature to the Δ47 composition of the bioapatite scales of gar fish (Lepisosteidae family). Modern gars live at <∼3 m depth in rivers and lakes, are non‐migratory, and their scales grow continuously over their lifespan (∼8–14 years).

Global change and premature hatching of aquatic embryos

Fish predation can affect amphibian populations. Most examples report invasive fish species and their negative effect on specific amphibians. Here we provide an occurrence of natural fish predation by the tropical gar Atractosteus tropicus on the cane toad Bufo marinus. We observed physical damage caused by A. tropicus attacking B. marinus.
