A Comparison to Facilitate Insertion of the Laryngeal Mask: Term of Recovery and Postoperative Nausea and Vomiting after Anesthesia with Propofol-Atracurium and Thiopental-Atracurium

open access: yesActa Medica Iranica, 2015
Laryngeal mask is a supraglothic instrument for ventilation of patients who are under anesthesia. Insertion of laryngeal mask requires maintaining sufficient depth of anesthesia to avoid airway reflex (gagging, coughing and spasms).

Cisatracurium and Atracurium as Antigens [PDF]

open access: yesAnaesthesia and Intensive Care, 1999
Seventy-five consecutive patients referred to an anaesthetic allergy clinic were intradermally tested with atracurium and cisatracurium. With the exception of one patient the results were identical, suggesting that allergy to either drug is associated with allergy to the stereoisomer.

Evaluation of Intrinsic Fetal Airway Obstruction (CHAOS): Correlations Between Ultrasound, Fetoscopic, and Pathological Findings

open access: yesPrenatal Diagnosis, Volume 45, Issue 3, Page 433-438, March 2025.
ABSTRACT Objective To correlate ultrasound findings with fetoscopy and pathology data in patients with suspected congenital high airway obstruction syndrome (CHAOS) to improve prenatal diagnosis and management. Method This study included five consecutive patients suspected of having CHAOS. Prenatal ultrasound was performed to identify key features such

Recovery Profile of Atracurium versus Cisatracurium [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Clinical and Diagnostic Research, 2018
Introduction: Atracurium and cisatracurium are promising drugs offering a predictable recovery due to non-organ dependent elimination. However, due to the variability in metabolism and narrow therapeutic window, monitoring of neuromuscular functions has ...

Avoidance versus use of neuromuscular blocking agents for optimizing video laryngoscopy‐assisted tracheal intubation: A protocol for a systematic review with meta‐analysis and trial sequential analysis

open access: yesActa Anaesthesiologica Scandinavica, Volume 69, Issue 3, March 2025.
Abstract Background Both the European Society of Anaesthesiology and Intensive Care and the Difficult Airway Society recommend the use of neuromuscular blocking agents (NMBAs) to facilitate tracheal intubation and to reduce the risk of complications.

Peri‐operative identification and management of patients with unhealthy alcohol intake

open access: yesAnaesthesia, Volume 80, Issue 3, Page 311-326, March 2025.
Summary Introduction This consensus statement gives practical advice for the safe management of patients with harmful alcohol intake undergoing elective and emergency surgery. The wide spectrum of alcohol‐related organ dysfunction observed in this cohort of patients may have a profound impact on care, and the additional effects of alcohol withdrawal ...

Neuromuscular Blocking Agents and Tracheal Intubation: Systematic Review and Meta‐Analysis of Effects on Laryngeal Complications and Intubating Conditions

open access: yesHealth Science Reports, Volume 8, Issue 2, February 2025.
ABSTRACT Background and Aims The use of neuromuscular blocking agents (NMBAs) in tracheal intubation is widely accepted in anesthetic induction, but adverse effects are possible. We performed a systematic review and meta‐analysis to compare influence of use and nonuse of NMBAs on incidence of laryngeal complications and intubating conditions in ...

Atracurium is associated with postoperative residual curarization.

open access: yesBritish Journal of Anaesthesia, 2003
BACKGROUND Residual paralysis following the use of neuromuscular blocking drugs remains a clinical problem. As part of departmental quality assurance, we examined the degree of postoperative residual curarization (PORC) following atracurium.

Effect of administration sequence of induction agents on first‐attempt failure during emergency intubation: A Bayesian analysis of a prospective cohort

open access: yesAcademic Emergency Medicine, Volume 32, Issue 2, Page 123-129, February 2025.
Abstract Background Emergency tracheal intubation is associated with a risk of clinical adverse events, including the risk of first‐attempt failure. Induction agents usually include a sedative and a neuromuscular blocking agent (i.e., paralytic). Whether the order of administration (i.e., sedative vs.

Protocol development and feasibility of the PEACH in Asia study: A pilot study on PEri‐anesthetic morbidity in CHildren in Asia

open access: yesPediatric Anesthesia, Volume 35, Issue 2, Page 125-139, February 2025.
Abstract Background Comprehensive data on pediatric anesthesia outcomes, particularly severe critical events (SCEs), are scarce in Asia. This highlights the need for standardized research to assess anesthesia safety and quality in the diverse settings.
