Accelerated atrazine degradation and altered metabolic pathways in goat manure assisted soil bioremediation

open access: yesEcotoxicology and Environmental Safety, 2021
The intensive and long-term use of atrazine in agriculture has resulted in serious environmental pollution and consequently endangered ecosystem and human health. Soil microorganisms play an important role in atrazine degradation.

Characterization of atrazine-induced gonadal malformations in African clawed frogs (Xenopus laevis) and comparisons with effects of an androgen antagonist (cyproterone acetate) and exogenous estrogen (17beta-estradiol): Support for the demasculinization/feminization hypothesis. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
Atrazine is a potent endocrine disruptor that both chemically castrates and feminizes male amphibians. It depletes androgens in adult frogs and reduces androgen-dependent growth of the larynx in developing male larvae.

New detection method for atrazine pesticides with the optical waveguide Mach-Zehnder immunosensor [PDF]

open access: yes, 1997
Concentrations of analytes can be determined within a few minutes using on-line analysis of the immunobinding kinetics in a solid phase immunoassay. This approach has been applied to the detection of atrazine.

Substrate Specificity of Atrazine Chlorohydrolase and Atrazine-Catabolizing Bacteria [PDF]

open access: yesApplied and Environmental Microbiology, 2000
ABSTRACT Bacterial atrazine catabolism is initiated by the enzyme atrazine chlorohydrolase (AtzA) in Pseudomonas sp. strain ADP. Other triazine herbicides are metabolized by bacteria, but the enzymological basis of this is unclear.

Atrazine and cancer incidence among pesticide applicators in the agricultural health study (1994-2007). [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Atrazine is a triazine herbicide used widely in the United States. Although it is an animal carcinogen, the mechanism in rodents does not appear to operate in humans.

Herbicide cycling has diverse effects on evolution of resistance in Chlamydomonas reinhardtii [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Cycling pesticides has been proposed as a means of retarding the evolution of resistance, but its efficacy has rarely been empirically tested. We evolved populations of Chlamydomonas reinhardtii in the presence of three herbicides: atrazine, glyphosate ...

Plantain-based diet modulates atrazine-induced testicular toxicities in rats

open access: yesAsian Pacific Journal of Reproduction, 2023
Objective: To assess the potential of plantain-based diet in modulating testicular toxicities in rats exposed to atrazine. Methods: The plantain-based diet at 50%, 25% and 12.5% were prepared from the basal diet by substituting the corn starch with ...

Ametryn removal by Metarhizium brunneum: Biodegradation pathway proposal and metabolic background revealed [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Ametryn is a representative of a class of s-triazine herbicides absorbed by plant roots and leaves and characterized as a photosynthesis inhibitor. It is still in use in some countries in the farming of pineapples, soybean, corn, cotton, sugar cane or ...

Per capita interactions and stress tolerance drive stress-induced changes in biodiversity effects on ecosystem functions [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Environmental stress changes the relationship between biodiversity and ecosystem functions, but the underlying mechanisms are poorly understood. Because species interactions shape biodiversity-ecosystem functioning relationships, changes in per capita ...

Alfalfa’s response to atrazine stress and its secreted atrazine metabolites

open access: yesEcotoxicology and Environmental Safety, 2022
Although listed as endocrine disruptor compounds, atrazine (ATZ) is still used in large quantities in agricultural production. Here, alfalfa seedling was cultivated in hydroponic media to investigate the toxic effects of ATZ on alfalfa and accumulation of ATZ in tissues of different plant parts. Alfalfa had a strong upward translocation ability to ATZ.
