Juxtaposition of the atrial appendages

Cardiovascular Pathology, 2012
Juxtaposition of the atrial appendages is a rare congenital cardiac malformation, with the appendages both located on the left or right side of the great arteries. It is usually associated with cyanotic congenital heart disease. The aim of this report is to illustrate the anatomical features of normal and juxtaposed atrial appendages, with a review of ...

Left Atrial Appendage... and Another Appendage?

Journal of Cardiothoracic and Vascular Anesthesia, 2015
Fig 2. 3D transesophageal echocardiography image showing the outpouching of the left atrial wall (arrow) close to the P3 scallop of the mitral valve. Abbreviations: LV, left ventricle; LA, left atrium). Fig 3. En face view of the mitral valve obtained with 3D transesophageal echocardiography. The left atrial appendage is seen at the 9 o’clock position,

Juxtaposition of the atrial appendages

Human Pathology, 1979
Juxtaposition of the atrial appendages is a rare congenital cardiac anomaly almost universally associated with severe conotruncal abnormalities, especially transposition of the aorta. This presentation describes a case of right sided juxtaposition of the atrial appendages without concomitant conotruncal malformations.

Left atrial appendage myxoma masquerading as left atrial appendage thrombus

Asian Cardiovascular and Thoracic Annals, 2013
Myxomas are the most common benign tumors of the heart. They can arise from any heart chamber, but have rarely been described as originating from the left atrial appendage. We describe a case of left atrial appendage myxoma mimicking a left atrial appendage thrombus, and presenting with microembolization to the coronaries.

Left Atrial Appendage Stenosis

Journal of the American Society of Echocardiography, 1999
Narrowing at the mouth of the left atrial appendage has been reported after partial surgical ligation of the appendage. This report describes a patient, without prior cardiac surgery, who had an anatomic narrowing at the opening of the left atrial appendage demonstrated by 2-dimensional, Doppler, and color Doppler echocardiography.

Giant left atrial appendage

Postgraduate Medical Journal, 2011
A 30-year-old woman presented with a history of palpitations for 15 years and dyspnoea on exertion for 6 years. Her symptomatic status had worsened from New York Heart Association (NYHA) class 2 to NYHA class 3 in the last 1 year. On clinical examination, she had evidence of congestive cardiac failure and rheumatic mitral valve disease.

Band Occlusion of the Atrial Appendage

Journal of Cardiac Surgery, 2010
A new device has been developed for occlusion of the left atrial appendage (LAA). Previous investigations have been in the canine model. The canine atrial appendage does not vary in size and shape as much as the human. The goal of this study was to investigate band occlusion of right atrial appendages in the pig model, which are more broad based. The ...

Left Atrial Appendage Closure

Current Cardiology Reports, 2010
Stroke prevention is the primary goal in atrial fibrillation (AF) given its clinical and socioeconomic impact. With AF, the prevalence of thromboembolic stroke continues to rise and there is an urgent need to develop better strategies of stroke prevention.

Left atrial appendage clip occlusion: Early clinical results

open access: yesJournal of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery, 2010
OBJECTIVE: Atrial fibrillation puts patients at significant risk for embolic stroke originating from the left atrial appendage. Few means are available for safe, effective, and durable left atrial appendage occlusion. A new clip device was evaluated with

Inverted left atrial appendage

The Japanese Journal of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery, 2000
An unexpected left atrial mass was found during postoperative echocardiography in a 17-years old man following aortic valve replacement, suggesting thrombus, vegetation and neoplasm. Reoperation showed that the mass to be an inverted left atrial appendage. Left ventricular venting may cause such inversion.
