HUMAN ATRIAL NATRIURETIC PEPTIDE
Clinical Endocrinology, 1987Atrial peptides have been the subject of increasing attention since de Bold demonstrated that atrial extracts, when administered to anaethetized rats, induced a potent natriuretic and diuretic response (de Bold, 1979; de Bold et al., 198 1). Within 3 years, specific peptides with natriuretic and vasorelaxant activities were isolated, identified and ...

Atrial natriuretic peptide stability
Clinical Biochemistry, 2008Atrial natriuretic peptide (ANP) is a key regulator in the homeostasis of water excretion and has emerged as an important prognostic marker for symptomatic chronic heart failure (CHF). The stability of ANP represents a crucial factor in assessing its use as a cardiac biomarker.

Atrial natriuretic peptide in man
American Journal of Nephrology, 1988The heart is the major source of atrial natriuretic peptides (ANP). A propeptide is stored in atrial myocytes. In normal humans, atrial distension secondary to volume overload and/or increased atrial pressures are thought to stimulate the secretion of biologically active alpha-ANP (ANF-[99-126], 28 amino residues) into the circulation.

Atrial natriuretic peptide and related peptides
Clinical Chemical Laboratory Medicine, 2007AbstractIn recent years, biomarkers have been recognized as important tools for diagnosis, risk stratification, and therapeutic decision-making in cardiovascular diseases. Currently, the clinical potential of several natriuretic peptides is under scientific investigation.

Atrial natriuretic peptide (ANP) stimulates vasodilation, fluid egress, increased glomerular filtration and salt and water excretion, and blocks the release and/or actions of several hormones, including angiotensin II, aldosterone and vasopressin. ANP levels are commonly elevated in situations of excessive fluid volume or hypertension, and the hormone ...

Atrial Natriuretic Peptide in Hypothyroidism*
The Journal of Clinical Endocrinology & Metabolism, 1987The effect of hypothyroidism on circulating levels of atrial natriuretic peptide (ANP) was studied in 11 hypothyroid patients (aged 11-65 yr; mean, 31 yr) and 13 normal subjects (aged 28-39 yr; mean, 32 yr). Plasma ANP was 32 +/- 9 (+/- SD) pg/ml in normal subjects and 20 +/- 5 pg/ml in the hypothyroid patients (P less than 0.005).

Atrial natriuretic peptides in man
Canadian Journal of Physiology and Pharmacology, 1987Research on the physiological role of atrial peptides in man is limited, and the potential for these peptides, or more stable analogues, in therapeutics is uncertain. It is clear, however, that plasma levels of immunoreactive atrial natriuretic peptide (IR-ANP) are increased in volunteers taking a high sodium diet, and are elevated in patients with ...
