Organizing the interface—Plasma membrane architecture and receptor dynamics in virus‐cell interactions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Plasma membranes contain dynamic nanoscale domains that organize lipids and receptors. Because viruses operate at similar scales, this architecture shapes early infection steps, including attachment, receptor engagement, and entry. Using influenza A virus and HIV‐1 as examples, we highlight how receptor nanoclusters, multivalent glycan interactions ...

Wear of two different attachment systems in implant supported mandibular overdentures: a clinical comparative study

open access: yesBrazilian Dental Science
Introduction: The stud attachment is regarded as one of the most popular systems for the retention of removable overdentures. A new type of PEEK attachment system, such as Novaloc, may have a good prognosis compared to other systems.

Attachment and Parental Practices as Predictors of Behavioral Disorders in Boys and Girls

open access: yesPaidéia (Ribeirão Preto), 2013
This study’s objective was to investigate how two parental systems (attachment and parental practices) interact to predict internalizing and externalizing behavioral problems in girls and boys.

A Dynamic-Maturational Framework for the Study of Psychosis and Attachment Theory

open access: yesJournal of Experimental Psychopathology, 2022
Attachment theory has been used to explain the origin of psychotic phenomena. In this article we critically evaluate dominant models and assessment measures of attachment in the study of psychosis. We identify four problems aligning to current theory and

Residual tail twisting in ascidian larvae is stabilized by asymmetric myofibrils that resist bilateral symmetry restoration

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Ascidian Ciona larvae initially show strong clockwise tail twisting, which is largely corrected during development. However, a small residual twist remains. This study shows that organized helical myofibrils in tail muscles mechanically stabilize this residual asymmetry, preventing complete restoration of bilateral symmetry and revealing how embryos ...

Revisiting maxillary implant overdentures in 2022: A topic review

open access: yesDentistry Review, 2022
Objectives: The challenge for general dental practitioners to provide maxillary implant overdenture treatment for their patients is complicated by multiple, diverse parameters, compared to mandibular implant overdentures.

Biophysical approaches for studying viral entry

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Viruses infect all living organisms and have been responsible for major epidemics and pandemics. Their ongoing evolutionary battle with host defenses creates a constant need for improved tools to study viral behavior. Advancing methods to probe viral attachment, fusion, and genome release deepen our understanding of how infections begin and support the

Evaluation of microstrain around distally inclined implant-supported fixed partial denture using low profile attachment (An in-vitro comparative study) [PDF]

open access: yesAlexandria Dental Journal
INRTODUCTION: The microstrain (µε) around inclined implants will influence the selection of the type of attachment system. Studies that evaluated the microstrain around zirconium monolithic implant-supported posterior restorations with angled abutments ...

Rab14 regulates the transport of human papillomavirus to the trans‐Golgi network for infectious cell entry

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals that the small GTPase Rab14 is necessary for human papillomavirus (HPV) infection and plays an essential role in the transport of virions to the trans‐Golgi network (TGN). HPV in the early endosome (EE), which harbors GTP‐bound Rab14, is transported to the TGN through the switch of Rab14 from its GTP‐bound to GDP‐bound form.

Salmonella lipopolysaccharide‐containing supported lipid bilayers as platforms to study bacteriophage interactions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We present robust protocols for the preparation of supported lipid bilayers (SLBs) incorporating either Salmonella smooth LPS or outer membrane vesicles (OMVs). We use a combination of quartz crystal microbalance with dissipation (QCM‐D) and fluorescence microscopy to both characterize the SLBs of various compositions and to probe their interactions ...
