A quantifiable Attack-Defense Trees model for APT attack

2018 IEEE 3rd Advanced Information Technology, Electronic and Automation Control Conference (IAEAC), 2018
In order to deal with APT(Advanced Persistent Threat) attacks, this paper proposes a quantifiable Attack-Defense Tree model. First, the model gives both attack and defense leaf node a variety of security attributes. And then quantifies the nodes through the analytic hierarchy process.

Attack–Defense Trees and Two-Player Binary Zero-Sum Extensive Form Games Are Equivalent

open access: yesLecture Notes in Computer Science, 2010
peer reviewedAttack-defense trees are used to describe security weaknesses of a system and possible countermeasures. In this paper, the connection between attack-defense trees and game theory is made explicit. We show that attack-defense trees and binary

A Novel Methodology for Cybersecurity Investment Optimization in Smart Grids using Attack-Defense Trees and Game Theory

open access: yes, 2022
Securing cyber-physical systems (CPS) like the Smart Grid against cyber attacks is making it imperative for the system defenders to plan for investing in the cybersecurity resources of cyber-physical critical infrastructure.

Attack-defense trees based cyber security analysis for CPSs

2016 17th IEEE/ACIS International Conference on Software Engineering, Artificial Intelligence, Networking and Parallel/Distributed Computing (SNPD), 2016
Cyber-physical system (CPS) is the fuse of cyber world and the dynamic physical world and it is being widely used in areas closely related to people's livelihood. Therefore, the security issues of CPS have drawn a global attention and an appropriate risk assessment for CPS is in urgent need. The existing proposals using attack trees for risk assessment

Expected Cost Analysis of Attack-Defense Trees

2019
Attack-defense trees ( Open image in new window ) are an established formalism for assessing system security. We extend Open image in new window with costs and success probabilities of basic events. We design a framework to analyze the probability of a successful attack/defense, its expected cost, and its probability for a given maximum cost.

A Network Security Prediction Method Based on Attack Defense Tree

Journal of Nanoelectronics and Optoelectronics, 2023
Modern networks are vulnerable to coordinated assaults. To perform threat analysis on individual and combined attack behaviors, it is essential to establish a security situation analysis model based on offensive and defensive decisions. The standard attack tree model used in this study ignores the impact of defenses, and the defensive tree model is ...

Cybersecurity risk assessment method of ICS based on attack-defense tree model

Journal of Intelligent & Fuzzy Systems, 2021
Cybersecurity risk assessment is an important means of effective response to network attacks on industrial control systems. However, cybersecurity risk assessment process is susceptible to subjective and objective effects. To solve this problem, this paper introduced cybersecurity risk assessment method based on fuzzy theory of Attack-Defense Tree ...

Attack-Defense Tree Based Security Assessment

2013
In this Chapter, we present an attack-defense tree model for VANETs security and privacy problems, which considered both attacker's and defender's strategies. We also introduce two concepts of Return on Attack and Return on Investment to represent the potential gain from launching an attack or adopting a countermeasure. Both the attack-defense tree and

Cyber-Attack Risks Analysis Based on Attack-Defense Trees

2017
Considering the lack of theoretical analysis for systems under complicated attacks, a framework was proposed to analyze attack risks based on attack-defense trees. The attack period was divided into attack phase and defense phase and metrics was defined.

Tree-Based Attack–Defense Model for Risk Assessment in Multi-UAV Networks

IEEE Consumer Electronics Magazine, 2019
Unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) networks are attack-prone networks due to high mobility and distributed nature. Most of the existing approaches focus on prevention instead of analyzing the security vulnerabilities. For an efficient analysis, the interaction between attackers and defenders need to be investigated.
