Mechanisms of Attention

2004
This chapter reviews some of the studies demonstrating that attention is associated with an increase in activity in the brain region concerned with the processing of whatever it is that is being attended to. The basic assumption is that there is competition between stimuli for processing by the nervous system.

Probing the Mechanisms of Attention

2009
ABSTR/TCT This chapter emphasizes the manlr methods currently being employed to study brain networks related to attcntion. We seek to sct current studies into a historical background of efforts to understand how the brain selects among stimuli and resolves competing responses.

Visual attentional mechanisms

2001
AbstractThis chapter examines the classical psychophysical view of selective visual attention, and the physiological findings that suggest an alternative neurodynamical view based on the biased competition hypothesis. It discusses the computational models of visual attention, the biased competition hypothesis in single-cell studies, and the ...

Neural Mechanisms of Attention

1989
Abstract : This project attained its objectives of developing an animal model to examine the neural mechanisms of attention. The concepts and procedures were successfully produced and resulted in two publications describing the experimental strategy and the results.

Visual Attention Mechanisms Revisited

2018
Currently robots are evolving into an increasing complexity and have to support a large workload that directly affects their functions. To compensate this situation they must make a better use of their available resources while behaving in a reliable way. The goal of this project is to endow Shelly, the social robot created by RoboLab with a predictive

Attentional Pyramidal Neural Mechanisms

2002
While some models for visual attention represent computational models of human attention and are directly based on biological evidence24,11,10,31,1, other systems focus more on the computational aspects of the simulation and have been recognized as important components for tackling practical problems and for analyzing real images (e.g. 35,19,36). These
