Evaluation of an attenuated chicken-origin Histomonas meleagridis vaccine for the prevention of histomonosis in chickens

open access: yesFrontiers in Veterinary Science
IntroductionHistomonosis, a protozoan disease caused by Histomonas meleagridis, poses a significant economic burden on domestic poultry in China. To reduce the losses caused by this disease in chickens, an attenuated vaccine was developed by exploiting ...

The 3-Dimensional Distribution of Dust in NGC 891

open access: yes, 2011
We produce three-dimensional Monte-Carlo radiative transfer models of the edge-on spiral galaxy NGC 891, a fast-rotating galaxy thought to be an analogue to the Milky Way. The models contain realistic spiral arms and a fractal distribution of clumpy dust.

KDM7A and KDM1A inhibition suppresses tumour promoting pathways in prostate cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Treatment resistance is a major challenge for patients with advanced prostate cancer. This study examined an alternative approach to target the major prostate cancer‐promoting pathway by targeting epigenetic factors, whose levels are higher in tumours.

Live Attenuated Varicella Vaccine

open access: yesThe Journal of Pediatrics, 1984
Live attenuated varicella vaccine will in all probability soon be licensed in the United States for immunization of healthy children and adults and certain immunocompromised children. This vaccine can be expected to protect susceptibles from varicella (or to modify it) in those subsequently exposed to the wild virus.

Cell‐cycle‐specific lesion evolution rather than inhibition of double‐strand‐break repair underpins cisplatin radiosensitization

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
We analyze cisplatin–DNA adducts (CDAs) and double‐strand breaks (DSBs) in a cell‐cycle‐dependent manner. We find that CDAs form similarly across all cell cycle phases. DSBs arise only in S‐phase. CDAs might not directly impair DSB repair, but S‐phase DSB lesions evolve in the presence of CDAs and disrupt repair in G2, also causing radiosensitization ...

Image-guided catheter drainage in loculated pleural space collections, effectiveness, and complications

open access: yesLung India, 2020
Introduction: Image-guided drainage is an established technique with a multitude of applications. The indications, techniques, and management of image-guided catheter drainage, however, continue to evolve.

Proteasome inhibitor, ixazomib prevents topoisomerase‐I degradation and reverses irinotecan resistance in colorectal cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Ixazomib inhibits proteasome‐mediated degradation of topoisomerase I induced by irinotecan, thereby restoring drug sensitivity and promoting tumor cell death in colorectal cancer. Irinotecan, a topoisomerase I (topoI) inhibitor, is widely used for colorectal cancer, but resistance remains a major clinical challenge.
