Applicability of mitotic figure counting by deep learning: a development and pan‐cancer validation study

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
In this study, we developed a deep learning method for mitotic figure counting in H&E‐stained whole‐slide images and evaluated its prognostic impact in 13 external validation cohorts from seven different cancer types. Patients with more mitotic figures per mm2 had significantly worse patient outcome in all the studied cancer types except colorectal ...

YIPFα1A expression is regulated by multilayered molecular mechanisms

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
YIPFα1A, a five‐pass Golgi protein, is regulated at multiple layers. (1) Rare‐codon enrichment drives translation‐coupled mRNA decay. (2) A proximal 3′‐UTR element stabilizes mRNA. (3) A distal 3′‐UTR element included by alternate poly(A) site usage represses translation, which can be overridden by the proximal 3′‐UTR element.

Motif-Preserving Dynamic Attributed Network Embedding

open access: yesProceedings of the Web Conference 2021, 2021
Network embedding has emerged as a new learning paradigm to embed complex network into a low-dimensional vector space while preserving node proximities in both network structures and properties. It advances various network mining tasks, ranging from link prediction to node classification.

Early‐life high‐fat diet exposure increases Achilles tendon stiffness and induces transcriptomic alterations

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Early‐life exposure to a high‐fat diet altered intact Achilles tendons in rat offspring, making them thinner, stiffer, and molecularly distinct even without injury. These findings suggest that developmental high‐fat diet exposure may impair tendon quality and increase susceptibility to mechanical overload or tendon injury later in life.

SpecRp: A spectral-based community embedding algorithm

open access: yesMachine Learning with Applications, 2022
Community embeddings are useful in node classification since they allow nodes to aggregate relevant information regarding the network structure. Modularity maximization-based algorithms are the most common approach to detect communities in networks ...

SPG4 and Dementia: Expanding the Clinical Spectrum

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective Hereditary spastic paraplegia (HSP) is a group of disorders characterized by progressive spasticity and lower limb weakness, with mutations in SPG4/SPAST being the most common cause. Detailed studies and clinical and molecular comparisons across different populations are missing.
