Abstract Background Equine hepacivirus (EqHV) is closely related to hepatitis C virus (HCV), which causes persistent infection and chronic hepatitis in people. CLDN18 (43‐14A) is expressed in most gastric type adenocarcinomas and a much smaller proportion of HPV‐associated adenocarcinomas. Expression of CLDN18.2 mRNA but not CLDN18.1 mRNA is confirmed in both gastric type adenocarcinomas and HPV‐associated adenocarcinomas.
