Scalable audio coding using watermarking [PDF]

open access: yes2013 IEEE International Conference on Multimedia and Expo (ICME), 2013
A scalable audio coding method is proposed using a technique, Quantization Index Modulation, borrowed from watermarking. Some of the information of each layer output is embedded (watermarked) in the previous layer. This approach leads to a saving in bitrate while keeping the distortion almost unchanged.

Bit rates in audio source coding [PDF]

open access: yes, 1992
The goal is to introduce and solve the audio coding optimization problem. Psychoacoustic results such as masking and excitation pattern models are combined with results from rate distortion theory to formulate the audio coding optimization problem.

Coding overcomplete representations of audio using the MCLT [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
We propose a system for audio coding using the modulated complex lapped transform (MCLT). In general, it is difficult to encode signals using overcomplete representations without avoiding a penalty in rate-distortion performance.

A Novel Combined System of Direction Estimation and Sound Zooming of Multiple Speakers [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
This article presents a new system for estimation the direction of multiple speakers and zooming the sound of one of them at a time. The proposed system is a combination of two levels; namely, sound source direction estimation, and acoustic zooming.

A novel psychovisual model on an independent video frame for an almost lossless compression [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
A psychoacoustic model is well established in an audio coding. From the beginning of computer audio era since the previous century, an audio coding has already operated on a large one-dimensional fast Fourier transform (FFT) as a basic industrial coding.

The Development of Digital Audio Coding

open access: yesTongxin xuebao, 1995
The psychoacoustic models used in perceptnal audio coding are described. The algorithm and realtime hardware implement complexity of MPEG/Audio,Dolby AC-2 ,and AC-3 are introduced. The result of the MPEG/Audio multichannel subject listening tests are ...

Entropy-constrained quantization of exponentially damped sinusoids parameters [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
International audienceSinusoidal modeling is traditionally one of the most popular techniques for low bitrate audio coding. Usually, the sinusoidal parameters are kept constant within a time segment but the exponentially damped sinusoidal (EDS) model is ...

Sinusoidal Analysis-Synthesis of Audio Using Perceptual Criteria

open access: yesEURASIP Journal on Advances in Signal Processing, 2003
This paper presents a new method for the selection of sinusoidal components for use in compact representations of narrowband audio. The method consists of ranking and selecting the most perceptually relevant sinusoids.

Distortion-Free 1-Bit PWM Coding for Digital Audio Signals

open access: yesEURASIP Journal on Advances in Signal Processing, 2007
Although uniformly sampled pulse width modulation (UPWM) represents a very efficient digital audio coding scheme for digital-to-analog conversion and full-digital amplification, it suffers from strong harmonic distortions, as opposed to benign non ...
