Multidecadal High Mortality Disease Events in Australian Domestic Geese Associated with a Novel Alphaherpesvirus, Designated Anatid Alphaherpevirus 2

open access: yesTransboundary and Emerging Diseases, Volume 2024, Issue 1, 2024.
Herpesviruses are ubiquitous viruses which infect a wide range of hosts. Novel herpesviruses are being increasingly detected in free‐ranging bird populations and there are growing concerns for cross‐species infection and spillover events. Herein, multiple sporadic outbreaks of mortality caused by a herpesvirus are described in domestic geese in ...

Abortion and Lethal Septicaemia in Sows Caused by a Non‐ST194 Streptococcus equi subsp. zooepidemicus

open access: yesTransboundary and Emerging Diseases, Volume 2024, Issue 1, 2024.
Outbreaks of zoonotic Streptococcus equi subsp. zooepidemicus (SEZ) have caused severe epidemics in the pig sector since the 1970s in Southeastern Asia, China, and more recently North America. Cases of high mortality caused by peracute septicaemia were all attributed to strains of a highly virulent clonal lineage belonging to the sequence type (ST) 194.

Infectivity and Potential Zoonotic Characteristics of Porcine Pseudorabies Virus in Human Cells

open access: yesTransboundary and Emerging Diseases, Volume 2024, Issue 1, 2024.
Pseudorabies virus (PRV) is widely spread, characterized by high contagiousness, high viral load, and strong infectivity, and poses severe threats to the global pig farming industry. Apart from pigs, PRV can also infect several other mammals, including mice, cattle, cats, dogs, and wolves, with diverse clinical symptoms.

Immunosuppression of the Nasal Cavity by a Novel Pathogenic Pseudorabies Virus Isolation from Cattle in China

open access: yesTransboundary and Emerging Diseases, Volume 2024, Issue 1, 2024.
The respiratory mucosa serves as a primary entry point for numerous pathogenic microbes, and the respiratory mucosa secretes type I and III interferons (IFNs), the first generation of antiviral cytokines, in response to viral infection. The pseudorabies virus (PRV) causes serious illnesses in many domestic and wild animal species, particularly in pigs ...

Insight into the Interaction Mechanism of Pseudorabies Virus Infection

open access: yesBiology
The pseudorabies virus (PRV), also known as suid alphaherpesvirus 1 (SuAHV-1), has garnered significant attention due to its broad host range and the economic losses it incurs in the swine industry.

Analysis of the Complete Genome Sequence of a Novel, Pseudorabies Virus Strain Isolated in Southeast Europe

open access: yesCanadian Journal of Infectious Diseases and Medical Microbiology, 2019
Background. Pseudorabies virus (PRV) is the causative agent of Aujeszky’s disease giving rise to significant economic losses worldwide. Many countries have implemented national programs for the eradication of this virus.

Pseudorabies detected in hunting dogs in Alabama and Arkansas after close contact with feral swine (Sus scrofa)

open access: yesBMC Veterinary Research, 2018
Background Pigs (Sus scrofa) are the natural hosts of pseudorabies virus (PRV), also known as Aujeszky’s disease. Infection in mammals, with the exception of humans, typically causes extreme itching, facial swelling, and excessive salivation, followed by

Spatio-temporal analysis of the progression of Aujeszky’s disease virus infection in wild boar of Saxony-Anhalt, Germany

open access: yesGeospatial Health, 2013
Aujeszky’s disease (AD, pseudorabies) is a notifiable disease caused by Suid herpesvirus 1 (SuHV-1), also named pseudorabies virus (PrV). The study aimed at determining the occurrence and spatio-temporal trend of specific antibodies to AD virus (ADV ...

A pseudorabies outbreak in hunting dogs in Campania region (Italy): a case presentation and epidemiological survey

open access: yesBMC Veterinary Research
Background Pseudorabies is an infection of domestic and wild pigs that has occasionally been reported in dogs with fatal encephalitis. Hunting dogs are predisposed to pseudorabies exposure due to incorrect practices (administration of raw infected meat ...
