OCTOID: A Soft Robotic System Featuring Programmable Shape Morphing and Dynamic Structural Coloration

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Inspired by octopuses, actuating legs based on soft materials are fabricated with programmed chiroptical properties and mechanical behaviors to achieve dynamic color modulation and reversible shape morphing, and these legs are developed into a modular OCTOID system.

Gesamtkunstwerk and Multimedia – between the Auratic and the Technical [PDF]

open access: yesIn Medias Res
The idea of the text is to question the similarities and differences between the concepts of gesamtkunstwerk and multimedia. These are terms that presuppose the search for a new form of unification of artistic forms, at different times and in different ...

Frequency of Prodromal Symptoms in Patients Suffering from Migraines with Aura

open access: yesHaseki Tıp Bülteni, 2022
Aim:Prodromal findings of migraine may be overlooked when patients are not questioned well. The International Classification of Headache Disorders classifies the prodromal phase as the symptomatic phase, which may last from 2 to 48 h and manifests before

Electron–Matter Interactions During Electron Beam Nanopatterning

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This article reviews the electron–matter interactions important to nanopatterning with electron beam lithography (EBL). Electron–matter interactions, including secondary electron generation routes, polymer radiolysis, and electron beam induced charging, are discussed.

A rainfall simulation study on the relationships between soil test P versus dissolved and potentially bioavailable particulate phosphorus forms in runoff [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
Runoff from clayey soils often contains abundant particulate phoshorus (PP), part of which may solubilize in surface waters. Monitoring losses of potentially bioavailable forms of PP is expensive, calling for other ways to predict them.

All‐Aqueous Pullulan Fibers Enabling Visible‐to‐Near‐Infrared Waveguiding with Mechanical and Thermal Resilience

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Pullulan, a biomass‐derived polysaccharide, is transformed into transparent optical fibers using a solvent‐free borax hydrogel‐spinning method. The fibers outperform PMMA with ≈200 MPa tensile strength and 200 °C stability, while uniquely guiding visible‐to‐NIR light and enabling additive‐free humidity sensing.

Separaxion anxiety in pediatric migraine without aura: A pilot study [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Background: Separation anxiety (SA) can be defined as the fear reaction and protest manifested by children when the main caregivers move away from him/her or in front of unfamiliar person. SA near eight months may be considered as an important and normal

Mesoporous Bioactive Glasses: A Powerful Tool in Tissue Engineering and Drug Delivery

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
This work is a comprehensive revision of bioactive glasses (BGs), pioneered by Prof. L.L. Hench, which are key in bone repair and regenerative medicine. Sol–gel methods and mesoporous designs enhanced their bioactivity, ions, and drug delivery. BGs now support gene therapy and 3D‐printed scaffolds, enabling personalized, multifunctional treatments in ...

Migraine generator network and spreading depression dynamics as neuromodulation targets in episodic migraine

open access: yes, 2013
Migraine is a common disabling headache disorder characterized by recurrent episodes sometimes preceded or accompanied by focal neurological symptoms called aura. The relation between two subtypes, migraine without aura (MWoA) and migraine with aura (MWA)

Preparation of Bifunctional Orthosilicophosphate MgO‐CaO‐ZnO‐P2O5‐SiO2 Glasses: in vitro Evaluation of Antibacterial Activity and Osteoblast Gene Expression Behavior

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
Bifunctional ZnO‐containing orthosilicophosphate glasses (SPGs) composed mainly of orthotetrahedral groups with the unique glass network structure without long‐chain units are prepared via melt‐quenching. The glasses exhibit excellent antibacterial activity and upregulate the expression of osteogenic markers by releasing inorganic ions.
