Dimensions, Function and Applications of the Auricular Muscle in Facial Plastic Surgery
Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, 2020To determine the dimensions and function of the auricular muscle and to consider applications of this muscle in facial plastic surgery.Nonpreserved fresh frozen human cadaver dissections from the (HOSPITAL-Blinded) Body Donation program were dissected. The length and width of the superior auricular muscle were measured.

Objective tympanophonia caused by myoclonus of the auricular muscles
The objective of the present literature review was to systematize the available data on the etiology, pathogenesis, clinical features, diagnostics, and treatment of muscular tympanophonia. The commonest source of muscular tympanophonia is the tremor (myoclonus) of the soft palate or the middle ear; sometimes this condition can be a consequence of ...

Development and growth of auricular cartilage and muscles: A study using human fetuses
Objectives The auricle is a key target in pediatric plastic surgery and is considered to develop from a ring- or funnel-like arrangement of six hillocks in the embryo. However, there has been no report showing the morphologies of the auricular muscle and

The Scutulum and the Pre‐Auricular Aponeurosis in Bats [PDF]
The external ear in eutherian mammals is composed of the annular, auricular (pinna), and scutellar cartilages. The latter extends between the pinnae, across the top of the head, and lies at the intersection of numerous auricular muscles and is thought to

Ear Projection and the Posterior Auricular Muscle Insertion
Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery, 1997Prominent ears is a common congenital anomaly affecting approximately 5 percent of the general population. The etiology has been attributed to three basic deformities in the ear structure: valgus of the concha with a cranioauricular angle greater than 40 degrees, underfolding of the anthelix, and rarely, hypertrophy of the concha.

Stahlʼs Ear Caused by an Abnormal Intrinsic Auricular Muscle
Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, 1999Stahl's ear in a 12-year-old girl was treated surgically. During the operation, we discovered that the transverse muscle had an abnormal course, and we concluded that this muscle had caused the deformity. Treatment was accomplished by cartilage incision and transposition of the muscle to its normal position.

The posterior auricular muscle: a useful anatomical landmark for otoplasty
The Journal of Laryngology & Otology, 2017AbstractBackground:The correct anatomical placement of conchomastoid sutures during suture otoplasty can sometimes prove challenging. If the suture vector is inaccurate, reduction can be difficult and this may lead to malrotation of the pinna. Methods:This paper describes the adoption of the auricularis posterior muscle, which runs from the mastoid to ...

Hemifacial spasm and posterior auricular muscle.
Electromyography and clinical neurophysiology, 2006We aimed to investigate to which extent posterior auricular muscle (PAM) was affected and whether it contributed to the reflex activity in hemifacial spasm (HFS) patients. 19 HFS patients' spasm activities were recorded from facial muscles. Spasm activity of PAM was recorded synchronously on the symptomatic side in all patients. Lateral spread of blink

Posterior Auricular Muscle Flap with Otoplasty
2013In order to overcome some of the drawbacks of conchal reduction and to present another reliable prominent ear correction technique, the author has used the posterior auricular muscle. The purpose was to overcome the risks of conchal reduction surgery and to utilize the muscle combined with perichondrioplasty (perichondrial flap tacked posteriorly) for ...
