The effect of ausferrite formation on the mechanical properties of gray iron
Scripta Materialia, 2004Abstract By controlling the composition, ASTM class 35 gray iron can be cast directly to produce a microstructure ranging from fully pearlitic to that containing 100% ausferrite. An increase in volume fraction of ausferrite resulted in a concomitant linear increase in key mechanical properties with the fully ausferritic gray iron producing the ...

Effect of austempering temperature on microstructure of ausferrite in austempered ductile iron
Materials Science and Technology, 2019The effect of austempering temperature on the microstructure of ausferrite in austempered ductile iron was investigated. The results show that the grain sizes of retained austenite and acicular bainitic ferrite both become larger with the increase of austempering temperature.

Round bars Ø 53 mm were hot-rolled from a 1.4 tonne ingot forged to 165 × 165 mm. The composition of the steel was 0.45 wt. % C and 3.33 wt. % Si plus alloying elements for hardenability. Microstructure after air cooling from 1010 °C on the cooling bed was predominantly ausferritic.

A cellular automaton-finite difference simulation of the ausferritic transformation in ductile iron
Materials Science and Technology, 2018The development of the ausferritic transformation of a ductile iron was analysed using a novel cellular automaton-finite difference model, which considers geometrical details of the microstructure, nucleation of the new phase at graphite nodule surface, contact between growing phases, and carbon diffusion in austenite.

Development of mixed (ferrito-ausferritic) structures for spheroidal graphite irons
Metallurgical Science and Tecnology, 2013For years in the automotive industry the objective is to reduce the weight of components for well known car performance and environmental reasons. One way is to use more resistant materials for instance in the area of suspension foundry castings.

Abrasive wear behaviour of SiCp/Al alloy composite in comparison with ausferritic ductile iron
Wear, 2011Abstract The abrasive wear behaviour of SiCp/Al composites (MMCs) prepared by liquid metallurgy method was investigated to find out effects of applied load and weight fraction on a pin-on-disc configuration. The MMC pins containing 20 wt.% particles with sizes of 50 μm and its 2014 Al alloy were tested under different conditions against SiC abrasives.

Analysis of decomposition processes of ausferrite in copper–nickel austempered ductile iron
Journal of Thermal Analysis and Calorimetry, 2010Analysis of thermal decomposition processes of the ausferrite obtained during simulation of austempering heat treatment was performed on austempered ductile iron (ADI). The analysis method consisting in investigation of inverse phase transformations was applied.

Study of Ausferrite Transformation Kinetics for Austempered Ductile Irons with and without Ni
SAE Technical Paper Series, 2016<div class="section abstract"><div class="htmlview paragraph">This research studies the transformation kinetics of austempered ductile iron (ADI) with and without nickel as the main alloying element. ADI has improved mechanical properties compared to ductile iron due to its ausferrite microstructure. Not only can austempered ductile iron be

Structure and Property Studies on Austempered and As-Cast Ausferritic Gray Cast Irons
Journal of Materials Engineering and Performance, 2009A high-strength and wear-resistant alloyed gray iron with ausferritic microstructure on solidification directly from molten condition could be made in a Ni and Mo alloyed gray cast iron. The as-cast ausferritic cast iron was compared with two conventionally austempered gray iron with and without Ni and Mo additions.
