Influence of the Chemical Composition on the Ausferritic Transformation in Carbide-Free Bainitic Cast Steel

open access: yesMaterials Science Forum, 2014
This work focuses on the study of the solid state transformations that take place during the austempering of high silicon carbide-free bainitic cast steels with different chemical composition. In order to get this objective three cast steel melts with different chemical compositions were produced, evaluating the influence of Cr, Mn, Ni, Al and Co.

Alloy and process design of thermo-mechanically processed multiphase ductile iron

open access: yesMaterials & Design, 2015
This work highlights the transformation kinetics, microstructure evolution, hardness and compression properties of four thermo-mechanically processed ductile irons (DIs) having from 0 to 1.7 wt.% aluminum.

Hadfield steel and austempered ductile iron : similar in metallurgy yet different in chemistry, heat treatment and application [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Hadfield steel contains high carbon above 1% manganese content above 11% to stabilise austenite at room temperature while ADI has low manganese content of typically less than 0.4% to suppress the precipitation of carbide during austempering.

Influence of the surface roughness on the fatigue properties in ausferritic ductile irons (ADI)

open access: yesMATEC Web of Conferences, 2014
Heat treatment of cast ductile iron (DI) to ausferritic ductile iron (ADI) is known to increase fatigue properties. However, the surface roughness of the cast material is also of significant importance. In this investigation, test rods with seven different surface qualities were cast from the same melt i.e. with same chemical composition.

EVALUATION OF THERMAL STABILITY OF AUSFERRITE IN AUSTEMPERED DUCTILE IRON USING DIFFERENTIAL SCANNING CALORIMETRY [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Austempered Ductile Iron (ADI) is prone to changes in microstructure and mechanical properties when exposed to elevated service temperatures. Differential Scanning Calorimetry has been used to evaluate the stabilizing effects of copper, nickel ...
