A Unique Quenching and Deformation Dilatometer for Combined In Situ Neutron Diffraction Analysis of Engineering Materials

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, Volume 23, Issue 11, November 2021., 2021
A modified quenching and deformation dilatometer (TA instruments DIL 805A/D/T) is now in operation at the Heinz Maier‐Leibnitz Zentrum (MLZ, Germany) neutron center. It is customized for running neutron scattering measurements during the temperature/deformation treatment of the sample, in particular neutron diffraction (phase, texture, and lattice ...

Diffraction-based determination of single-crystal elastic constants of polycrystalline titanium alloys. [PDF]

open access: yesJ Appl Crystallogr, 2019
The single‐crystal elastic constants of polycrystalline titanium alloys have been determined using neutron and synchrotron powder diffraction.Single‐crystal elastic constants have been derived by lattice strain measurements using neutron diffraction on polycrystalline Ti‐6Al‐4V, Ti‐6Al‐2Sn‐4Zr‐6Mo and Ti‐3Al‐8V‐6Cr‐4Zr‐4Mo alloy samples.

Influence of different electron beam surface pre‐treatments on the results of subsequent boriding‐part I Einfluss verschiedener Elektronenstrahl‐Randschichtbehandlungen auf das Ergebnis eines nachfolgenden Borierens‐Teil I

open access: yesMaterialwissenschaft und Werkstofftechnik, Volume 52, Issue 8, Page 815-830, August 2021., 2021
Under comparable boriding conditions, the layer thickness generated on the unalloyed cast iron surface were approximately twice as thick as on the nickel cladded surface. For the unalloyed substrate, the well‐known iron borides were determined. The boride layer formed on the alloyed surface contained iron borides with dissolved nickel portions as well ...

Micromechanical simulation of fatigue in nodular cast iron under stress‐controlled loading

open access: yesMaterial Design &Processing Communications, Volume 3, Issue 4, August 2021., 2021
Abstract Nodular cast iron contains about 10 vol% of graphite particles, which debond easily and thus act as nucleation sites of voids. When an elastic–plastic porous material is subjected to cyclic loading, voids grow with each load cycle due to so‐called void ratchetting until the micro‐ligaments between the graphite particles begin to neck.

The investigation and peculiarities of calculation of transport machine elements made of austempered ductile iron [PDF]

open access: yesTransport, 2003
In this article the statical and cyclical strength investigations of austempered ductile cast iron (ADI) are presented. ADI material becomes more and more popular. Ductile iron is lighter than steel and its mechanical properties are better.

Current Status of Carbidic Austempered Ductile Iron [PDF]

open access: yesE3S Web of Conferences, 2022
Grinding balls in wet ball mill are important consumables in mine grinding equipment, which have poor wear resistance and large consumption. It is imperative to find excellent wear-resistant materials for the grinding balls.

Effects of graphite nodules on crack growth behaviour of austempered ductile iron [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
Austempered ductile iron (ADI) is a candidate material for camshafts, where however, the early stages of fatigue damage are of major concern during service.

A Contribution to New Material Standards for Ductile Irons and Austempered Ductile Irons [PDF]

open access: yesInternational Journal of Metalcasting, 2016
Some results of materials characterization activities, dedicated to classical and notch mechanics fatigue and elastoplastic properties, have already been published for some Ferritic-Pearlitic Ductile Iron, including the patented heat treated Isothermed (IDI) and Austempered Ductile Iron (ADI) grades. Others have not yet been published. The possible use
