Improvement in fracture toughness of austempered ductile iron by two-step austempering process

International Journal of Cast Metals Research, 2010
Abstract Ductile cast iron samples were austenitised at 900°C and subjected to two types of austempering called as conventional austempering and two-step austempering. Five different temperatures, 280, 300, 320, 350, 380 and 400°C, with an austempering time of 2 h, were chosen for conventional austempering.

Optimizing Wear Resistance in Carbidic Austempered Ductile Iron through Austempering Parameter Variation

Tuijin Jishu/Journal of Propulsion Technology
Austempered ductile iron (ADI), as implied by its name, is a variant of ductile iron known for its enhanced strength and toughness compared to cast iron. Distinguishing itself from cast iron, ductile iron exhibits higher strength and toughness, particularly in tensile tests.

Engineering Austempered Ductile Iron Castings

2022
Abstract Unlike conventional quench and temper heat treatment, austempering is an iron and steel heat-treatment process that enhances mechanical properties through the isothermal transformation of austenite with a minimum amount of quenching stresses. This chapter begins with a discussion of austemperability requirements.

Carbidic austempered ductile irons

2017
Carbidic austempered ductile iron, which attracts considerable attention in wear applications recently, due to its superior abrasive wear resistance and sufficient impact toughness, is the latest member of ductile iron family.  A new technology and additional investment are not required for the production of these irons.

Annealing, Normalizing, Martempering, and Austempering

1996
Abstract This chapter describes the heat treatments called annealing and normalizing for steels and examines the structures formed and the reasons for these treatments. It also provides a description of the special heat treatments, namely, martempering and austempering. Information on intercritical heat treatment is also included.
