Austenite grain growth and effect of austenite grain size on bainitic transformation

Materials Science and Technology, 2022
This study was carried out with medium carbon steel to investigate the austenite grain growth kinetics at three temperatures and the effect of prior austenite grain size on bainitic transformation kinetics. Grain growth behaviour of austenite with two initial microstructures, pearlite and bainite, have shown almost similar kinetics.

Austenite grain size and the martensite-start temperature

Scripta Materialia, 2009
New experimental evidence confirms the dependence of the martensite-start temperature on the austenite grain size. The Fisher model for the geometrical partitioning of austenite grains by plates of martensite is used here to develop a theory to explain the observations, based on the ability to detect transformation as a function of the austenite grain ...

Martensite start temperature and the austenite grain-size

Journal of Materials Science, 2010
The dependence of the martensite start temperature on the austenite grain-size is modeled based upon aspects of martensite nucleation and validated by data reported in the literature. The results obtained support the view that grain boundaries provide an environment for the formation of martensite embryos in annealed austenite.

Modeling the Effect of Austenite Grain Size Distribution on Austenite Decomposition Kinetics

Materials Science Forum, 2007
The model of the γ→α transformation calculated with the CATRAN program is described. The expected effect of former austenite grain size on the transformation kinetics as well as the final microstructure is analyzed and compared with experimental data.

Effect of Initial Grain Size on the Dynamic Recrystallization Behaviours of Austenite

Materials Science Forum, 2007
The effect of initial grain size on the recrystallization behaviour of a type 304 austenitic stainless steel was investigated using hot torsion. Refinement of the initial grain size to 8 μm had a considerable effect on the flow curve shapes, peak and critical strains and also on DRX kinetics, compared with an initial grain size of 35 μm ...

Austenite Grain Size in HSLA

JOM, 1987
This paper attempts to find a suitable technique for determining prior austenite grain size in mild steel such that it could be used over as wide a range of compositions and temperatures as possible. An effort is also made to trace the reasons behind the failure of any particular technique when applied beyond a specific temperature and composition ...

The Effect of Austenitizing Temperature on Prior Austenite Grain Size in Martensitic Cast Steel

Solid State Phenomena, 2013
The GX12CrMoVNbN9-1 (GP91) cast steel belongs to a new group of high-temperature creep resistant cast steels being introduced to the power industry. The cast steel is characterized by higher mechanical properties in comparison with the low alloy Cr – Mo or Cr – Mo – V cast steels used so far.
