Sensitization of manganese-stabilized austenitic steels

Proceedings, annual meeting, Electron Microscopy Society of America, 1990
In an earlier study of the phase stability of manganese-stabilized austenitic steels based on Fe-12 Cr-20 Mn-0.25 C (wt %), significant precipitation of tau carbides (M23C6) was found to occur both in the matrix and at grain boundaries during aging near 600°C.

Austenite stabilization through manganese enrichment

Scripta Materialia, 2011
A model is proposed to predict austenite stabilization through manganese partitioning between ferrite and austenite. The model predicts retained austenite fractions as a function of intercritical annealing temperature based on equilibrium phase fractions and solute contents.

Increasing the stability of austenite by programmed loading

Metal Science and Heat Treatment, 1970
The stability of austenite under strain can be increased by programmed loading in the temperature range where the stability of heated austenite is highest and the diffusion mobility of lattice defects is adequate. For some parts of austenitic steels (of the Kh18NI0T type) operating at low temperatures under stress, programmed loading can be used as the

Stability of Reversed Austenite in 9Ni Steel

Advanced Materials Research, 2012
The samples of 9Ni steel were treated by Quenching + Tempering (QT) and Quenching + larmellarizing + Tempering (QLT). The morphology, thermal stability and mechanical stability of the reversed austenite in 9Ni steel were studied by TEM, XRD, EBSD, subzero treatment, three-point bending, uniaxial tension and uniaxial compression.

Instabilities in stabilized austenitic stainless steels

Metallurgical Transactions A, 1992
The effect of aging on the precipitation of grain boundary phases in three austenitic stainless steels (AISI 347, 347AP, and an experimental steel stabilized with hafnium) was investigated. Aging was performed both on bulk steels as well as on samples which were subjected to a thermal treatment to simulate the coarse grain region of the heat affected ...

Mechanical stability and magnetic properties of austenite

Journal of Materials Science, 1995
Austenitic alloys have been produced by additional alloying in maraging steel grade 18 Ni at 2400 MPa. The concentration of Mo, Ni and Co was increased individually until the martensite start temperature Ms, was suppressed below ambient value. Charpy impact strength, tensile strength and magnetic properties were determined.

Microstructural stability during creep of a niobium-stabilized austenitic steel

Acta Metallurgica, 1981
Abstract Creep tests combined with transmission electron microscopy have been carried out on a niobium stabilized austenitic stainless steel which has been subject to a multi-mechanical thermal treatment (MMTT). It is found that the substructure introduced by the MMTT creates two distinct creep regimes, separated by a narrow transition temperature or

Phase stability of reduced-activation Mn-stabilized austenitic steels

Journal of Nuclear Materials, 1992
Abstract The thermal aging response of three Mn-stabilized austenitic alloys: Fe15Cr15Mn, Fe10Cr30Mn and Fe30Mn, is characterized as a function of aging time and temperature using optical metallography, analytical electron microscopy, microhardness, and magnetic susceptibility measurements.

On the stabilization of retained austenite: mechanism and kinetics

Materials Science and Engineering: B, 1995
Abstract Stabilization of retained austenite is now well established and refers primarily to a process where further martensite transformation is hindered. However, the literature shows a wide variety of ways in which this impediment can be brought into play.
